We are seeking a qualified, passionate chef to assist our team with functions and group bookings.

Mary MacKillop Spirituality Centre is a unique retreat, conference and accommodation venue set amongst 50 acres of tranquil bushland on the picturesque Central Coast. Inspired by the legacy of Saint Mary MacKillop, we welcome retreat guests, schools, organisations, conference delegates and community groups seeking connection, renewal and hospitality in a peaceful natural setting.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Casual Chef to join our hospitality team. This is an excellent opportunity for a culinary professional who enjoys preparing fresh, high-quality meals, thrives in a dynamic hospitality environment, and takes pride in creating exceptional dining experiences. Working with a dedicated team, you will help deliver nourishing meals and warm hospitality that enhance the experience of every guest who visits our Centre.
Essential for this role
- Certificate 3 in Commercial cookery
- A desire to deliver outstanding meals to all dietary requirements in a timely manner
- Operate independently as well as in a team environment
- Maintain food safety and hygiene standards every shift.
- Current food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willing to obtain)
- Menu creation and ordering experience (preferably)
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Service
- Prepare and cook meals according to the Centre’s approved menu framework
- Prepare food for morning tea,
afternoon tea, lunch, and dinner service
- Ensure meals are prepared in appropriate quantities for retreat and conference groups
- Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and portion control
- Ensure dietary requirements and allergies are carefully managed
- Ensure meals are ready for service according to scheduled mealtimes.
- Take responsibility for kitchen operations during assigned shifts.
- Supervise and coordinate kitchen hands during food preparation and services.
- Maintain an organised, clean and efficient kitchen setting.
- Ensure food is stored, labelled and rotated correctly.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and hygiene throughout the shift.
Menu Planning and Ordering Support
- Follow the Centre’s menu plans and kitchen procedures
- Assist with menu planning and food ordering when required
- Monitor stock levels and advise when supplies need replenishment
- Support the efficient use of ingredients to minimise food waste
Compliance and Safety
- Follow all Food Safety and WHS regulations.
- Ensure safe handling of kitchen equipment.
- Maintain compliance with food safety standards, including temperature control and safe food storage.
- Report hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
General Duties
- Assist with kitchen cleaning and end-of-shift close down procedures.
- Support the efficient operation of the kitchen during large group bookings.
- Assist with special events, retreats or functions as required.
- Participate in team meetings or operational briefings when required.
