Medical Receptionist - Family-Owned GP Clinic

For over 30 years, Manuka Medical Centre has been a fixture of the Manuka village - a family-owned, fully private billing general practice built on the simple idea that positive healthcare starts with a good first impression. We're not a corporate clinic and we're not trying to be one. We're a close-knit team of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and administrative staff who know our patients by name, and we're proud of it.

We're now looking for someone to join us at an exciting time, as we invest in refining how the practice runs. If you want to be part of building something genuinely well-run, not just staffing a desk, this is worth a conversation.

About the role

We’re looking for someone who treats the front desk as the heart of the practice - the person who notices when an elderly patient needs a little more time, who can read a busy waiting room and adjust on the fly, and who takes real pride in getting the small things right, every time.

We're investing in someone who wants to grow their skills and stay with the practice for the long term.

A typical day will include:

Welcoming patients warmly and managing a busy, private-billing appointment book across multiple practitioners

Handling phone enquiries and bookings with patience and good judgement

Processing private billing, Medicare rebates and third-party invoicing accurately

Supporting our clinical team with up-to-date, well-maintained records and correspondence

Liaising with specialists, pathology, imaging and allied health providers on behalf of patients

Spotting small inefficiencies and speaking up - we want people who help us get better,



not just get through the day

Maintaining strict patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times

The person we're hoping to find

We can teach systems. We can't teach warmth, judgement or genuine care for people - that's what we're looking for.

You’ll likely recognise yourself in this if:

You've worked in medical reception or a similarly fast-paced, people-first environment, and you know it's about far more than admin

You stay composed and clear-headed when the phones are ringing, the waiting room is full and a patient is upset - and you know how to de-escalate with kindness

You have a genuine understanding of (or strong appetite to learn) Medicare, DVA, WorkCover, HICAPS and private billing

You're comfortable with practice management software (Best Practice experience is a strong plus)

You take pride in precision - correct billing, accurate notes, nothing falling through the cracks

Location: Manuka, ACT (Canberra)

Hours: Casual days across Mon-Fri 8am-6pm roster

Employment type: Casual /part-time

Rate: Competitive, based on experience
