Senior Financial Accountant | Private Equity
Organisation Profile
Our client is a well-established, multi-entity business and Private Equity backed business operating across Australia and international markets. With a track record of steady expansion, the business is entering an exciting new chapter investing heavily in its finance function, systems and governance as it scales toward its next phase of growth, including further acquisitions on the horizon which provides a great opportunity to join.
This is a business on the move: new ownership, a clear growth mandate, and a genuine appetite to invest in the people and platforms that will get it there.
Role Overview
This is a newly created Senior Financial Accountant role, reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller. With no other qualified accountant currently in the finance team, this is a rare opportunity to walk into a business and genuinely shape the financial control function from the ground up
You’ll take ownership of the month-end close and group consolidation across multiple entities, lead the corporate governance agenda, and play a hands‑on role in transforming the organisation’s finance systems. This isn’t a “keep the seat warm” role, it’s a launching pad, with a business that’s actively building toward its next stage of growth and needs someone who wants to grow with it.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage the month-end close and consolidate reporting across multiple entities and international markets
- Own the group reporting cycle end-to-end, coordinating with subsidiary finance teams to close the numbers on time
- Prepare and present management reporting with a genuinely commercial lens. Explaining the “why” behind the numbers, not just the “what”
- Drive corporate governance with audit liaison, covenant reporting and statutory compliance
- Partner closely with the FP&A; function to align data and reporting across the business
- Take a lead role in a live ERP transformation project with genuine scope to shape systems, automation and controls, not just work within them
- Support and informally mentor a junior member of the finance team
- Build strong relationships across finance, operations and the broader business
Why This Role Stands Out
- A rare, newly created role in a business with real momentum with current PE ownership and an active growth and acquisition strategy
- Build the financial control function from scratch. Here is genuine ownership, not a legacy process to maintain
- Direct, regular exposure to the CFO, Group Financial Controller and the private equity investment team. Offers visibility most SFA roles don’t offer
- A structured, realistic path to Finance Manager within 2–3 years, as the business scales and adds further international entities
- A live seat at the table on a major ERP/systems transformation in a genuine career-defining project to point to
- Fast‑paced, high-performance culture without the layers of bureaucracy of a larger corporate
- A leadership team that is deliberately investing in people, not just processes, as it builds out the function
Ideal Candidate
You’re a CA‑qualified finance professional ready to make the jump from an industry role or your first move from Big4/ Mid Tier into something with genuinely more ownership and visibility.
You’re naturally curious and career‑driven, someone who spots what needs fixing and gets on with it, rather than waiting to be told. At the same time, you know how to bring people with you, building trust with stakeholders rather than working in isolation. You think commercially, not just technically, and you’re excited by the idea of helping build something in a high‑growth environment, rather than maintaining what’s already there.
Key Requirements
- CA qualified (or equivalent), ideally with Big 4 / Mid-tier firm training
- Industry exposure within FMCG, listed companies or private equity-backed businesses highly regarded
- Strong experience managing month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and statutory reporting
- Experience with group consolidation, intercompany accounting and foreign currency translation advantageous
- Exposure to ERP systems and a genuine interest in process improvement and automation
- Demonstrated ability to manage or mentor junior team members
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment with a strong sense of ownership
