The Elexon Group of Companies – Brendale QLD
At Elexon Mining, you'll work on cutting‑edge wireless monitoring systems and IoT platforms that operate in real‑world mining environments worldwide. This is a hands‑on hardware validation and design role where you will partner closely with our R&D; team to stress‑test custom Software Defined Radios (SDR), sensor systems, and analog electronics. Your mission is to deliver the extreme reliability and battery efficiency required for devices deployed deep inside boreholes. You will join a small, high‑trust team that values evidence‑based component‑level troubleshooting, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
About the Company
Elexon Mining designs and manufactures in‑ground, wireless monitoring solutions. Our Geo4Sight products are deployed in challenging mining applications, often deep inside boreholes, requiring an extremely robust mechanical, electronic and software design. Your work will help improve safety and efficiency in global mining operations.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a versatile Intermediate Electronics Engineer to bridge the gap between R&D; hardware design and real‑world system reliability for our Geo4Sight product ecosystem. This is a unique role designed for an engineer who loves getting hands‑on in the lab.
You will spend approximately 70% of your time heavily involved in advanced hardware validation; working to find the breaking points of our custom SDR and proprietary radio stacks in harsh mining environments. The remaining 30% of your role will involve general electronics design support, including designing and modifying supporting PCBAs for our product lines. If you enjoy deep‑diving into analog electronics, debugging amplifier performance, and taking ownership of RF/SDR validation while keeping your design skills sharp, this is the role for you.
Regular on‑site presence in Brisbane is required due to the hands‑on nature of our hardware development and validation.
Core Responsibilities
- Hardware & Radio Characterization:
Execute deep‑dive performance testing of hardware supporting custom low‑frequency Software Defined Radio (SDR) systems.
- Electronics Design & Support: Perform design, schematic capture, and layout of supporting PCBAs and test jigs required for the broader product ecosystem.
- Root‑Cause Debugging: Work side‑by‑side with the R&D; team to troubleshoot complex hardware failures down to the component level, leveraging your knowledge of analog electronics and RF physics.
- Manufacturing Test Development: Support the outsourced development of advanced In‑Circuit Test (ICT) and Functional Test solutions for complex PCBAs to ensure smooth transitions from R&D; to production.
- Environmental & Power Validation: Assess the impact of extreme temperature ranges and environmental factors on radio/sensor/hardware performance and battery lifetime.
- Test Infrastructure: Collaborate with our software‑focused test engineers to integrate physical hardware validation into broader Python‑based test scripts and Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) environments.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure hardware meets Australian and international regulatory standards through rigorous verification.
What we are looking for in you
- Strong Electronics Foundation: A degree in Electronic Engineering (or similar) with 7+ years of experience, possessing a deep understanding of analog and digital circuit design.
- Advanced Debugging Skills: The ability to read complex electronic schematics, understand component‑level behaviour, and diagnose exactly why a circuit is failing, not just that it failed.
- Lab Equipment Mastery: Expert, hands‑on experience using Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analysers, Logic Analysers, and Environmental Chambers.
- RF & Wireless Fundamentals:
An understanding of antenna characteristics, amplifier performance, demodulator operation, impedance matching, resonance, and general RF propagation.
- Design Experience: Proven experience in schematic capture and PCB layout for mixed‑signal design using Altium.
- Low‑Power/Battery Systems: Experience designing or testing battery‑powered embedded products with tight power budgets.
- SDR Knowledge: Familiarity with Software Defined Radio (SDR) concepts and proprietary network protocols.
- Scripting & Automation: Intermediate Python programming skills for automating test equipment or conducting data analysis.
- Mechanical Fundamentals: A general understanding of mechanical principles to support the physical stress testing of enclosures and hardware assemblies.
- Version Control: Familiarity with Git for collaborating with firmware and hardware teams.
Skills and Abilities
- Versatile Problem‑Solving: Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to effectively perform component‑level hardware troubleshooting independently or collaboratively alongside R&D; developers.
- Resourcefulness: Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and develop lab‑based tests, RF test environments, and physical setups that effectively replicate harsh field conditions.
- Adaptive Learning: Capacity to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements in a fast‑paced tech environment.
Why work at Elexon Mining?
- Work on cutting‑edge technology that improves safety and efficiency worldwide.
- Join a small, collaborative team where your work is visible and valued.
- Flexible hours and work options.
- Competitive salary and professional development opportunities.
- Convenient Brisbane location (Brendale).
