About the role
Volleyball Queensland (VQ) is a not-for-profit, member-based organisation focused on increasing participation in volleyball in all its forms throughout Queensland. VQ provides volleyball opportunities for players young and old, experienced and novice through its competitive, recreational, and school-based events. VQ is guided by its elected Board of Management, generating financial resources through a variety of activities including competitions, leagues, feature events and corporate partnerships. The organisation is generously supported with grant funding by the Queensland Government.
Key responsibilities
The Participation & Inclusion Lead leads the development, implementation and evaluation of Volleyball Queensland's participation and inclusion initiatives, with responsibility for translating organisational strategy and annual Operational Plan priorities into sustainable programs, partnerships and participation pathways across Queensland. The position leads initiatives that increase participation, improve accessibility and strengthen lifelong engagement in volleyball, with particular focus on schools-to-club transition, inclusive and adaptive volleyball, para-sport, regional participation, Masters and senior participation, and opportunities for underrepresented and priority groups.
Lead the implementation, growth and evaluation of Volleyball Australia's PlayVolley program across schools, clubs and other appropriate delivery environments, including developing sustainable delivery models, supporting affiliated clubs and tracking participation and transition outcomes.
Lead the development and implementation of initiatives that strengthen the transition from school-based volleyball into affiliated clubs and ongoing participation, including identifying pathway opportunities,
engaging schools and affiliates, developing pilot programs and supporting the establishment of recent participation opportunities where appropriate.
Lead the growth of Sitting Volleyball at grassroots, state and national levels, including the development of a clear Queensland performance pathway for para-athletes.
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with disability sport, education, government, community and other inclusion-focused organisations to expand participation opportunities and strengthen referral and pathway networks.
Support and facilitate mechanisms that provide community, participant and stakeholder voice in VQ's participation and inclusion planning, including advisory groups, consultation processes and stakeholder feedback mechanisms.
Design, implement and evaluate participation initiatives that support grassroots, performance and masters/seniors age groups, promoting lifelong involvement in volleyball.
Identify and pursue relevant government, community and non-traditional funding opportunities to support participation, inclusion and community development initiatives, including contributing to grant applications, acquittals, reporting and evaluation.
Contribute to cross-functional collaboration within Volleyball Queensland to ensure participation, pathways and inclusion initiatives are aligned with broader organisational priorities.
About you
Tertiary qualifications in Sport Management,
Sport Development or equivalent demonstrated experience in a sport participation or inclusion role.
Current Working with Children Check / Blue Card (QLD)
SIA Child Protection training modules – hold or obtain while in role
Valid Australian driver's licence and ability to travel as required across Queensland
Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and evaluating participation programs or initiatives within a sporting, community or education environment, with the ability to translate strategic priorities into practical programs that deliver measurable participation outcomes.
Demonstrated understanding of inclusive and accessible sport and experience developing or supporting initiatives that reduce barriers to participation for priority, underrepresented groups.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to promote programs, influence stakeholders and advocate for participation and inclusion outcomes.
Ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently, collect and analyse participation data, and prepare reports to support funding, compliance and continuous improvement.
Proven capacity to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team, contributing positively to organisational objectives and cross-functional initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with schools, clubs, volunteers, government agencies, national sporting organisations and community partners.
