ABOUT MNCLC
Mid North Coast Legal Centre (MNCLC) is part of Advocacy Law Alliance Ltd.
MNCLC is a not-for-profit community legal centre which provides civil law services in the local government areas of MidCoast, Port Macquarie – Hastings, Kempsey Shire, Nambucca Shire, Bellingen and Coffs Harbour. We have offices in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. This role is based in Coffs Harbour.
MNCLC seeks to provide access to justice through a multidisciplinary approach that includes legal information, legal advice, advocacy and representation, policy and law reform and legal outreach across the geographic catchment area.
This role is primarily responsible for the delivery of legal services.
38-hour work week, Monday to Friday
Permanent position based in our Coffs Harbour office
Competitive salary under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award, Pay Point range 5.1 - 6.1, dependent on experience

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Legal Practice
Deliver high-quality legal advice and casework in line with the Centre's Legal Practice Manual and strategic priorities.
Provide outreach legal services across MNCLC's catchment area.
Model ethical, trauma-informed, and client-centred practice while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
Mentor junior solicitors, volunteers, and students to build capability and confidence.
Support the Assistant Principal Solicitor and Principal Solicitor in maintaining excellence in legal practice and service delivery.
Assist in directing and supporting solicitors in the Coffs Harbour office to ensure consistent, high-quality legal services.
Law Reform and Community Engagement and Education
Develop and provide community legal education workshops in line with the Centre's strategic plan.
Identify opportunities for community legal education, publications, projects, and engagement with allies and stakeholders, in pursuit of the Centre's strategic goals.
Actively foster constructive relationships with clients, partners and community stakeholders through everyday interactions and engagement opportunities, strengthening the Centre's connection to community.
Participate as required in preparation of law reform activities.
Leadership, Planning and Compliance
Support the Assistant Principal Solicitor to ensure coverage during staff absences.
Be available to provide urgent phone advice for priority clients and support other duty rostered solicitors as needed.
Foster a safe, inclusive environment by setting clear expectations and providing constructive feedback.
Actively participate in planning, staff meetings, and organisational development activities.
Champion initiatives that strengthen legal practice and service delivery.
Ensure accurate recording of advice, casework, and service activities in AIIM.
Comply with organisational policies, ethical standards, and accreditation requirements.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Current NSW practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain).
Current NSW driver's licence and willingness to travel across the service area.
Minimum 3 years' post-admission experience, with demonstrated experience in general civil law.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice, including the ability to identify and respond to issues affecting disadvantaged clients and barriers to access to justice.
Strong advocacy, negotiation and dispute resolution skills, including experience in Local Court matters.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate in plain English with diverse communities, including First Nations people and people with disability.
Well-developed interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build relationships, work effectively in a team, and contribute to knowledge-sharing.
Strong organisational, time management and file management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
As part of our government funding contract all staff are required to have a police criminal record check and clear working with children check prior to commencement.
