Stawell Gold Mines is seeking an Environmental and Community Officer to provide practical support across site environmental programs and community activities. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to an environmental professional who enjoys fieldwork, accurate data and reporting, and working with a broad range of stakeholders.
About the role
Reporting to the Environment and Community Manager, you will assist with environmental monitoring, management systems, regulatory reporting, rehabilitation and community engagement. You will work closely with employees, contractors, consultants, regulators and members of the local community while helping maintain a safe, responsible operation that meets all regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with monitoring noise, vibration, odour, dust, water and tailings facilities.
- Maintain environmental records, databases, procedures and GIS information.
- Collect data and help prepare internal and external regulatory reports, including quarterly and annual environment and community reporting, NPI, NGER and Schedule 19 requirements.
- Support rehabilitation and closure activities, including clean-up, weed control and revegetation of disturbed or closed areas.
- Respond to community enquiries and complaints, and assist with site tours, events and external community activities.
- Identify and report hazards, incidents and near misses, and contribute to continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance.
About you
You are practical, organised and confident communicating with people from different backgrounds. You bring a strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship, together with:
- A degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of environmental management plans, policies, procedures and standard monitoring practices.
- An understanding of Victorian and Commonwealth environmental regulation and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Sound computer skills, including Excel and word processing; GIS or MapInfo capability is desirable.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and an interest in stakeholder engagement.
- A current Victorian manual driver licence and First Aid certificate.
Experience in environmental monitoring, weed mapping and spraying, flora surveys or the mining industry will be highly regarded.
