Position Title: Senior Development Scientist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Sacco System Australia is based in Brisbane Queensland in a new state-of-the-art facility. The Senior Scientist is responsible for the development and delivery of process development and manufacturing for microorganism fermentation, specifically around Live Biotherapeutic Products.

The Senior Scientist will assist the Head of Scientific Development in the delivery of the short term (6-12 months) and long term (5 years) business goals with the aim to increase our production capabilities, method development,



and microorganism scale up services for Sacco System group. Additionally, technology transfer to international Sacco System sites may be required as directed.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

- Develop and conduct anaerobic manufacturing systems at small scale for external clients. This includes media and condition optimisation, scale up to lab scale manufacturing and lyophilisation
- Develop and conduct microbial analysis of obligate anaerobes using flow cytometry and standard microbial analytical techniques.
- Lead, design and perform research for product optimisation and innovation.
- Collaborate with senior scientists at international Sacco System sites
- Analyse data, write up experiments and results, report to Head of Scientific Development and provide feedback to appropriate team members.
- Establish and provide training to junior scientists.
- Assist with the development of standard operating procedure, protocols, comply with all lab safety and regulatory procedures.
- Coordinate with Head of Scientific Development lead for defining and planning team development strategies.
- Other duties as agreed with Head of Scientific Development

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

- A PhD degree with expertise in Microbiology and/or Bioprocess Engineering with evidence of relevant industry experience for at least 3 years; or a Bachelor's/master’s degree with at least 10 years of experience in industry.
- Hands-on experience with bioreactors, centrifuges, filtration systems, lyophilises.
- Solid understanding of anaerobic microbiology, media design, and scale up.
- Significant experience in leading, designing and conducting experiments, analysing data and writing reports.
- Ability to think innovatively, problem solve creatively, and work proactively.
- Ability to work independently and in team.
- Ability to work with multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to coach junior scientists.
