The role is based at DroneShield's Sydney headquarters, which houses corporate, commercial, engineering, and operational teams supporting the company's global growth and customer base.

About the role

The IT team is responsible for providing excellent end user experiences and services for our staff. They deliver prompt technical support, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the smooth operation of hardware, software, and network systems to minimise disruptions. The team also manages system maintenance, internal applications and drive overall organisational productivity.

The IT team must work closely with Engineering and Security teams to delight our Engineers while keeping a high level of security.





This role will be a key position within the DroneShield Information Technology team. Primary responsibilities including owning and improving our existing technology and processes to scale efficiencies with the high growth of the company. To do so the candidate will be able to easily create programmatic automations. The role will also require the candidate to be versed in several disciplines ranging from Linux administration, virtualisation platforms, automation tooling, internal application hosting and cloud infrastructure.

This role requires experience with either programming or advanced scripting. The ideal candidate will also have experience or ideas on how to leverage LLM to make the team more effective.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

Contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of core infrastructure initiatives, including on-premises and hybrid cloud environments, ensuring systems are reliable, secure, and scalable

Lead engineering and operational support for Linux based systems, storage, and core infrastructure services.

Develop automation and tooling using Bash, Python, PowerShell, or configuration management platforms (e.g., Ansible).

Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code workflows (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) to support consistent, automated, and scalable infrastructure deployments.

Manage and support AWS services including compute, storage, networking,



and security components to ensure reliable hybrid integration and alignment with broader infrastructure operations.

Improve and maintain monitoring, alerting, logging, and operational insights across systems and applications.

Experience managing hybrid environments spanning on-premises and private clouds.

Involvement with Networking architecture and operations.

Provide technical guidance and act as a subject matter expert across various IT domains.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align IT solutions with business needs.

Mentor team members.

Work on architecting Global Solutions for the growing company and set standards for IT across the DroneShield Group in Australia and internationally.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

7+ years' experience in a similar role.

Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement within IT environments.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.

Robust Linux administration skills (Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL, or similar).

Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

High proficiency in scripting languages for automation and system management.

Solid understanding of networking concepts including firewalls, VPNs, routers/switches, DNS, DHCP and Spanning Tree.

Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.

Proficient with endpoint management tools such as Intune, SCCM and JAMF, and identity platforms like Azure Entra ID.

Experience administering the Atlassian suite, including JIRA and Confluence.

Familiarity with system monitoring tools and user support processes, with a focus on customer success.
