EL (Elite Life) is Australia and New Zealand's premium quarterly print and digital magazine, designed for a high-net-worth audience. Created to sit on the coffee tables of executive offices, luxury residential lobbies, private lounges, prestige automotive dealerships, and high-end real estate offices — EL is more than a magazine. It is a statement piece.
Think Esquire at its 1980s peak: bold, intelligent, sophisticated, and beautifully designed. Our point of difference is simple — we don't just showcase luxury, we tell the stories of the people creating it.
Heroes — Long-form profiles of Australia's and New Zealand's most inspiring founders, entrepreneurs, investors, and leaders
Property — Luxury homes, architecture, developments, and investment opportunities
Business — Entrepreneurship, leadership, innovation, and emerging industries
Cars & Boats — Performance vehicles, prestige brands, yachts, and luxury transport
Fashion — Premium fashion, watches, jewellery, and personal style
Holidays — Luxury travel, exclusive destinations, resorts, and unique experiences
Investments — Wealth creation, private markets, property, venture capital, and financial strategies
EL exists to become the definitive publication for Australia's and Current Zealand's business and lifestyle elite — a publication designed to be collected, displayed, and revisited long after publication.
Editor-in-Chief & General Manager
This is a senior leadership role unlike any other in Australian publishing. As Editor-in-Chief & General Manager, you will own every aspect of EL Magazine — from the moment an issue is conceived to the day it lands in the hands of Australia's most influential readers.
You are not a department head. You are the publication. You lead the editorial vision, oversee design and production, build the commercial partnerships that sustain the brand, and represent EL at the highest levels — in boardrooms, at industry events, and across media.
This is a ground-floor opportunity to define and lead one of Australia's most ambitious new media brands. The right person sees that as a privilege,
not a constraint.
What You Will Own
Content Planning & Development — Lead the editorial calendar for each quarterly issue — themes, flagship features, contributors, story arcs, and section balance across all pillars
Commissioning Articles — Build, nurture, and manage a network of quality writers, journalists, photographers, and contributors who understand and can deliver the EL standard
Editorial Direction — Set and protect the voice, tone, and quality of all content — ensuring every word published reflects the intelligence and sophistication of the EL brand
Cover & Feature Strategy — Identify, approach, and secure the profile subjects, brands, and stories that define each issue
Design & Production
Design & Production Coordination — Brief and manage the design team to ensure every page meets EL's premium visual standard — from layout concepts to final print-ready files
Deadline Management — Own the production timeline end-to-end — managing all moving parts to ensure print-ready delivery each quarter, without exception
Supplier & Printer Liaison — Maintain relationships with printers, production vendors, and fulfilment partners to deliver the magazine on time and on budget
Business Development & Partnerships
Editorial Partnerships — Develop and maintain relationships with PR firms, luxury brands, agencies, and media partners — turning them into long-term contributors and commercial supporters of EL
Brand Representation — Be the public face of EL at industry events, partner meetings, launch functions, and in media — representing the publication with authority, warmth, and credibility
Distribution & Placement Strategy — Work with the leadership team to grow EL's distribution footprint across premium venues, corporate lobbies, and exclusive outlets across Australia and New Zealand
The Ideal Candidate
You do not need to have run a magazine before. You do need to understand what makes one extraordinary. We are looking for a rare combination of creative instinct, operational discipline, and commercial intelligence — someone who can lead a team, build relationships with remarkable people, and hold an uncompromising standard for quality.
Demonstrated experience in editorial leadership, premium publishing, luxury media, or a closely related field
A strong personal network within Australian and/or New Zealand business, media, PR, or luxury brand circles
Proven ability to commission, edit, and publish long-form content to a high editorial standard
Excellent project management skills — able to manage multiple complex workstreams simultaneously against firm quarterly deadlines
Outstanding written and verbal communication — confident presenting to senior stakeholders, partners, and potential contributors
Entrepreneurial mindset — comfortable in a growing, dynamic environment where initiative and ownership matter
Based in Australia, with the flexibility to attend events, partner meetings, and launches as required
Highly Regarded
Experience working with print production processes, design teams, or creative agencies
Existing relationships with luxury brands, PR firms, or media buyers in the Australian or New Zealand market
A portfolio of published work that demonstrates premium editorial sensibility
Experience in business development, advertising sales, or media partnerships
Beyond the base salary, this role offers something rare: the opportunity to build and lead a flagship Australian publication from the ground up. As EL grows, so does the scope, the profile, and the commercial rewards attached to this position. Brand equity, creative ownership, and genuine leadership are built into the role by design.
