About the role
In this newly created role based at our newest green‑field campus, you will support a broad team of staff responsible for the maintenance, repair and incident response of critical services and systems covering Electrical, Mechanical and Fire. The Service Technician – Shift Team will be the first to respond to alerts and alarms, assign the severity, prioritise rectification and determine whether escalation to third‑party contractors is required.
Shift team members will proactively perform inspections to ensure all critical infrastructure operates as designed and identify any possible risk to the infrastructure and buildings. The position monitors the critical infrastructure 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is able to make quick decisions on prioritisation and escalation based on experience. The shift team assists with the monitoring of all contractors conducting critical work and ensures strict adherence to pre‑defined MOPs.
Other responsibilities
- Respond quickly to all service requests and emergency faults.
- Undertake initial fault finding on equipment, determine the cause and implement remediation.
- Provide estimated timelines for repairs with key internal teams so client communications can be coordinated.
- Undertake critical switching in the event of a failure to ensure no disruption to critical services.
- Ensure all planned contractor maintenance activities are completed in accordance with the MOP and CDC policies.
- Timely handover of work to ensure clean transition between shifts.
- Undertake daily site reviews to ensure all infrastructure operates correctly.
- Assist with addressing issues identified within maintenance reports.
- Communicate all identified risks immediately as they are identified.
- Provide support to clients as required or directed by management.
- Enforce safe work practices in accordance with CDC policy and procedures.
- Assist with writing procedures for critical maintenance and emergency operations.
- Assist with BAU operations.
About you
- Trade or tertiary qualification (Electrical – Refrigeration – Mechanical – Mechatronics – Fire – Telecommunications).
- 4+ years trade or critical facilities experience.
- Prior experience in critical infrastructure environments and adherence to strict procedures and policies.
- Prior experience operating Building Management Systems (BMS) or Energy Management Systems (EMS).
- Exposure to data centre equipment – CRAC units, UPS, generators, fire systems, etc.
- Demonstrated experience managing all site critical infrastructure to ensure continuity of services with no disruption to clients or standard business operations.
- Experience in utilising electronic monitoring systems to proactively monitor site conditions, respond to alerts and alarms, generate reports and assist in root‑cause analysis.
- Strong documentation skills with accurate and timely creation of incidents on internal incident management systems.
- Experience in identifying improvements to processes and procedures related to the response and maintenance of critical services. Ability to contribute ideas to improve infrastructure efficiency.
- Demonstrated experience escalating all critical service issues within the facilities that may impact clients or reduce redundancy.
- Experience assisting senior staff with root‑cause analysis reporting of equipment failures with suppliers and contractors.
- Ensures contractors maintaining or operating critical infrastructure follow all processes and procedures.
Desirable
- HV Electrical Switching Certification.
- Work Health Safety Certification.
- Prior experience with a commercial data centre provider in a similar role.
- Prior experience in supervision or coordination of staff, contractors and suppliers qualified to operate or maintain critical infrastructure and prioritising staff workload.
- Low‑Voltage rescue.
- First Aid qualification.
Essential
- Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance.
- Work on a rotational 12‑hour shift roster (2 days – 2 nights – 4 off).
