Build Your Civil Construction Career
1st or 2nd Year Civil Construction Apprentice | Meet at Somersby | Full-time

The Opportunity
Like working outdoors, using tools and being part of a crew that gets things done?

CCGT is looking for a 1st or 2nd Year Civil Construction Apprentice to join a civil construction and directional drilling business working across the Central Coast and surrounding regions.

You’ll meet at Somersby and work with a hands-on crew on real civil construction projects. This role is suited to someone who enjoys practical outdoor work, teamwork and learning skills in a growing industry.

You will be employed by Central Coast Group Training (CCGT) and placed with the Host Employer for your day-to-day work. CCGT will support you throughout your apprenticeship while you complete a nationally recognised Certificate III in Civil Construction.

This is a full-time apprenticeship over 36 months. The role is generally 10 days on, 4 days off, with 12-hour shifts. Overtime may apply after ordinary hours, and occasional weekend work may be required.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing
Your first few months will focus on learning site safety, getting familiar with tools, equipment and materials, and helping the crew with daily civil construction tasks.

As your skills grow, you’ll start learning how to:

- Assist with site preparation and trenching
- Use hand tools and power tools safely
- Help operate and maintain plant and machinery
- Load, unload and move tools, equipment and supplies
- Handle asphalt, soil and construction materials

- Support directional drilling and civil construction work
- Keep worksites clean, safe and organised
- Follow WHS and environmental procedures
- Work with supervisors and crew members to support project delivery

You will not be expected to know everything on day one. The goal is to listen, ask questions and keep improving.

Why This Is a Good Place to Start
You’ll be learning with an experienced civil construction crew that offers:

- Hands-on outdoor work across real projects
- Exposure to civil construction and directional drilling
- Practical training with tools, machinery and site processes
- A fast-paced team environment where safety matters
- Support from supervisors and crew members on site
- Regular CCGT check-ins throughout your apprenticeship
- Skills that can lead to future work across the civil construction industry

You’ll also receive paid full-time employment, on-the-job training and support from CCGT throughout your apprenticeship.

After your apprenticeship, career pathways may include Civil Construction Worker, Plant Operator, Directional Drilling Operator, Leading Hand, Site Supervisor or Civil Construction Project Coordinator.

What We’re Looking For
This role could suit you if you:

- Are interested in civil construction, machinery or outdoor work
- Are currently a 1st or 2nd Year Apprentice, or ready to start
- Turn up on time and are ready to learn
- Listen carefully and follow instructions

- Ask questions when you are unsure
- Work safely and respect the crew around you
- Can handle physical, hands-on work
- Communicate well and work as part of a team
- Show initiative and take pride in quality work
- Have a current White Card
- Have a current driver’s licence
- Can work in a fast-paced site environment

School projects, work experience, sport, volunteering, labouring, outdoor work, hobbies or helping family all count. Include anything that shows you are reliable, practical and willing to have a go.
