Cooking Level 5 Operator – All Shifts (Day, Afternoon & Night)

Our Further Processing Plant in Edinburgh Parks has opportunities for Level 5 Cooking Operators across all three shifts. This is a step-up role – one level below our Leading Hand – where you’ll take on more responsibility on the line and play a bigger part in keeping the cooking department running safely and efficiently. Depending on the team and shift, some Level 5 roles include 2IC duties – though this isn’t the case across the board.

We’re looking for people with solid food industry experience; cooking experience is highly regarded but not essential. You’ll be mechanically minded, a logical and process-driven thinker, and ready to step up and take on more on the floor.

This is genuinely a stepping-stone role, with real opportunities to grow further into leadership or a trade pathway.

Hours of Work

We have permanent positions available across Day, Afternoon, and Night shift. These are fixed shift roles – you’ll be applying for a specific shift and committing to that roster long-term. When applying, please indicate which shift you are available for. Some weekend work will bel available at overtime pay rates.

Daily Tasks

- Support the Leading Hand and Supervisor across the shift, stepping up to help run the department where 2IC duties form part of the role
- Set up, monitor, and safely shut down oven and fryer systems; adjust cooking parameters to get product quality right every time
- Use a logical, process-driven approach to troubleshoot equipment and line issues before they become bigger problems
- Keep a close eye on yield and wastage, minimise cooking loss, and report on performance so we can keep finding improvements
- Run safety briefings, ensure PPE compliance, and get involved in incident investigations and corrective actions when needed
- Champion GMP and quality standards on the line, including HACCP compliance and routine quality checks
- Liaise across mixing, packing, QA, and maintenance to keep the whole process flowing smoothly




- Complete accurate shift reports, brief the incoming shift, and escalate issues to leadership as they come up
- Help allocate work, motivate the team, and work through any conflicts that pop up along the way

What You’ll Bring to This Role

- Experience working in a food production or manufacturing environment – cooking experience is highly regarded but not essential
- Positive mechanical aptitude and a logical, process-driven approach to problem solving
- Confidence around equipment set-up, operation, and basic troubleshooting
- An interest in stepping up and taking on more responsibility, with some roles including 2IC duties
- Solid understanding of food safety, GMP, and HACCP requirements
- A clear communicator who can report up, brief a team, and work well across departments
- A continuous improvement mindset – always looking for ways to cut waste and lift yield
- Reliable and safety-focused, comfortable in a fast-paced environment with hot and cold zones
- Able to commit to a fixed shift – Day, Afternoon, or Night – on a permanent basis, with some weekend work as required
