Commercial Business Development Manager – Lighting (Sydney)

About Space is looking for an experienced Commercial Business Development Manager to grow our commercial presence.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a key market, develop valuable industry relationships and deliver distinctive lighting solutions across commercial projects.

Working with architects, interior designers, builders, developers, contractors, wholesalers and other project stakeholders, you will identify new opportunities and manage them from initial engagement and specification through to quotation, negotiation, delivery and completion.

This role will suit an experienced business development professional who understands project-based sales, builds genuine long-term relationships and knows how to turn opportunities into commercially successful outcomes.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

- Developing new business across the NSW architecture, design, construction and development markets
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with architects, designers, builders, developers, contractors, wholesalers and other project stakeholders
- Identifying project, specification, partnership and strategic account opportunities
- Managing and growing a portfolio of commercial clients
- Working with clients to develop lighting solutions that balance design intent, technical requirements, budget, margin and lead times
- Managing opportunities from initial engagement through to quotation, negotiation, delivery and project completion
- Maintaining a qualified sales pipeline and providing accurate forecasts and reporting
- Representing About Space at client meetings, presentations, networking opportunities and industry events
- Collaborating with our design, sourcing, estimating, manufacturing, logistics and operations teams to deliver successful project outcomes
- Staying informed about market activity, industry trends, emerging technologies and competitor offerings

ABOUT YOU





You are an experienced and commercially minded business development skilled with a proven ability to generate new business, develop strategic relationships and convert complex opportunities.

You understand how commercial projects progress from design and specification through procurement, construction and delivery. You are confident engaging with different stakeholders and can develop solutions that consider both the creative vision and commercial realities of a project.

You will ideally bring:

- At least four years’ experience in business development, specification sales or account management
- Experience within lighting, architecture and design, interiors, construction, electrical, furniture, building products or a related industry
- Established relationships within the NSW architecture, design, construction or development community
- A demonstrated ability to manage and grow a substantial commercial portfolio
- Strong commercial acumen, including pricing, margin, negotiation and forecasting
- Experience managing complex opportunities with multiple stakeholders and extended sales cycles
- Strong presentation, communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence using CRM systems to manage pipeline and client information
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and strong attention to detail
