The Strategic Communications Team works with internal and external stakeholders to positively influence debate about, and raise public awareness of, human rights in Australia in everything we do. Our goal is to educate, inform and uphold the Commission’s reputation as a trusted and respected institution.Weare responsible forthe Commission’s media liaison, websites, social media channels, electronic newsletters, events,publishingand brand identity. Across the team we have professionals with diverse experience including journalism, public relations, graphic design, web content strategy,marketingand events.
We are looking for someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented and motivated to provide administrative supportto delivery of communications activities across the Commission. This is an exciting opportunity for a communications professional who enjoys providing high-quality administrative support, supporting events, building positive stakeholder relationships and ensuring our web and intranet content is user-friendly and error free.
This part time (3 days a week), non ongoing position offers a competitive salary range of $79,125 - $86,246 per annum (pro rata) plus 15.4% superannuation.
This is a parental leave cover position up to January 2028.

What You’ll Do
- Managing the team mailboxincluding assessing andwriting responsesto enquiries from thepublic orreferringfor actionasrequired.
- Procurementof suppliersfor the team,including gathering quotesand record keeping.
- Monthly credit card reconciliation.
- Managingcopyright requests.
- Organise travel and accommodation requests asrequired.
- Managingand distributing AHRCmerchandise andmarketing equipment
- Assistinwritingengaging communicationsforvarious channels includingEDM, social media, intranet, internalnewsletterand website content.
- Publishing news and events content on the intranet using SharePoint Online.
- Working with the Director to provide communication support to areas across the Commission.
- Provide event management support andlogisticscoordinationfor Commission events as required.
- Updating the Commission website asrequired.
What We’re Looking For
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline e.g. communications, journalism, marketing or equivalent skilled experience.
- Experience or familiarity with web content management systems systemse.g.Squiz DXP or Drupal.
- Experience in social media management platformse.g.Loomly, Hootsuite
- Experience in email marketing platformse.g.Mailchimp
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or other multimedia editing software.
- Good organisational and administrative skills including technology/computer skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision, to set priorities and to meet deadlines.
- Excellent writing skills and experienceinwriting engaging content for social media platformsand experience in the use of analytics to measure the effectiveness of social media activity.
- Ability to build and sustain positive relationshipswith team members, other teams,colleaguesand suppliers.
- Experience in event planning or event coordination.

Please note this position is advertised as Non-Ongoing to fill a parental leave cover position. The successful applicant would be employed for an initial period of up to January 2028, if extended the maximum period will be two years in total. The merit pool / list established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may be used to fill future non-ongoing vacancies in the Commission where the duties are of a similar nature.
