About the role
We have a rare chance for a experienced Okuma CNC Machinist to focus on operating computers and mechanically controlled machines to produce bespoke and custom precision metal parts for manufacturing equipment.
Your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Program, set and operate Okuma CNC 4/5 axis lathes.
- Analysing computer-aided design (CAD/CAM/CAE) models and engineering specifications to define the dimensions and features of the metal part to be produced.
- Determining the optimal tool path for fabricating the part by selecting appropriate machine tools (e.g. lathes, drill presses, Okuma CNC milling machines, Okuma CNC lathes) and specifying the sequence of tool operations.
- Manually setting up/adjusting machine tools and/or loading instructions into computer numeric control (CNC) systems.
- Recommending revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machinability or fabrication problems encountered.
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering – Level 4 or equivalent.
- Experience working with conventional machines in the factory including lathes, cut off saw, milling machine, Okuma CNC lathes and mills;
- Must be able to work under limited supervision for routine situations.
- Must enjoy working in a team.
- Must be able to communicate and manage time effectively.
- Must be safety conscious.
