We are seeking an experienced and motivated Campus Academic Lead to provide academic leadership and operational oversight for our Sydney campus. The Campus Academic Lead will play a critical role in ensuring the effective delivery of academic programs, supporting academic staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, and contributing to the institution's strategic objectives.
About the Role
The Campus Academic Lead is responsible for the day‑to‑day academic leadership of the Sydney campus and serves as the primary academic representative on‑site. Working closely with the Academic Programs Director (based in Sydney), the successful candidate will ensure a high‑quality student learning experience and foster a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
- Provide leadership and support to academic staff across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
- Ensure high standards of learning and teaching are maintained across all units and courses.
- Monitor student engagement, progression, retention, and academic performance.
- Support the implementation of institutional academic strategies and initiatives.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and academic excellence.
Staff Management and Supervision
- Directly supervise and support academic and academic administrative staff located at the Sydney campus.
- Conduct staff performance reviews, probation reviews, and development planning.
- Monitor academic staff workload allocation and utilisation.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, induction, and mentoring of new academic staff.
- Identify professional development needs and coordinate relevant training activities.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture.
Academic Operations
- Oversee the effective delivery of classes, assessments, examinations, and academic support activities.
- Ensure academic policies, procedures, and quality assurance processes are implemented consistently.
- Monitor assessment marking, moderation, feedback timelines, and grade finalisation.
- Support student appeals, grievances, academic integrity matters, and progression interventions.
- Coordinate campus academic activities and events.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and the requirements of the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of academic quality assurance processes, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, regulatory requirements and relevant higher education standards.
- Monitor and support quality improvement activities, including academic reviews, assessment quality, moderation, benchmarking and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate and manage scholarship and research projects, including project planning, implementation, reporting and evaluation.
- Support academic staff in developing scholarship and research activities that enhance teaching quality,
student learning outcomes and the academic profile of the College.
- Maintain appropriate records and provide reports on quality assurance, scholarship and research activities to relevant academic committees and senior management
Reporting and Stakeholder Management
- Prepare regular academic performance and operational reports for the Academic Programs Director.
- Escalate academic risks, compliance issues, and student matters as appropriate.
- Collaborate with student services, admissions, academic administration, and other institutional stakeholders.
- Represent the Sydney campus at internal meetings and external events when required.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- A Doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in higher education teaching and academic leadership.
- Experience managing and supporting academic staff.
- Strong understanding of higher education quality assurance and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in student engagement, retention, and academic support initiatives.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Solid organisational, reporting, and problem-solving capabilities.
Desirable
- Experience in course coordination, academic governance, or campus management.
- Knowledge of TEQSA requirements and Australian higher education standards.
- Experience working within private higher education institutions.
- Evidence of scholarship, research, or industry engagement.
