The Role
As an APS 6 Learning and Development Team Leader at the Defence Force School of Policing (DFSP), you will work under limited direction to lead the Training Systems Support Cell (TSSC), in the development and continuous improvement of complex Learning Management Packages (LMP). In this role you will need an understanding of the Defence Learning Manual and Army Training Manual, detailing Defence’s policies relating to the Systems Approach to Defence Learning (SADL) framework.
You will manage team workflows, priorities and resources, provide specialist learning and development advice, and ensure LMP are developed, reviewed and maintained in accordance with Defence policy.
The role requires independent judgement, leadership and stakeholder engagement to identify training requirements, coordinate quality assurance activities, and support continuous improvement of Military Police training capability. You will build team capability through coaching and mentoring, contribute to strategic workforce planning, and ensure learning products effectively support Defence operational outcomes.
About our Team The team, under APS 6 leadership, is responsible to develop, implement, and evaluate Military Police training in accordance with the SADL framework.
While training analysis and design are conducted by Headquarters Joint Training Command (HQJTC), the TSSC team supports continuous improvement by collecting and reviewing learner and instructor evaluation data, identifying actionable trends and issues, and providing validated feedback to HQJTC.
The team develops and quality-assures LMP, manages training delivery, and provides specialist advice to the Commanding Officer. These functions ensure that DFSP delivers effective, policy-compliant training that prepares personnel for law enforcement, mobility support, security, and detention roles, contributing to ADF operational readiness and the broader Defence learning enterprise.
Our Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience leading learning and development teams and managing competing priorities within a complex environment. They possess strong training design and quality assurance skills and can independently analyse issues, provide strategic advice, and develop practical solutions.
They build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, mentor staff, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgement, resilience, initiative and a commitment to delivering high-quality learning outcomes that support Defence capability requirements.
