Shelford Campus

Opening in 2027 in the heart of Caulfield, Shelford Campus will be Caulfield Grammar School’s newest Junior School. The campus will initially offer exceptional education for students in Prep and Years 4–6, before growing into a full Prep to Year 6 Junior School. This represents a once‑in‑a‑career opportunity for a founding teaching team to shape the culture and community from the ground up, delivering high‑impact learning in an outstanding purpose‑designed environment.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to inspire a love of language learning and help establish an exceptional Mandarin Language program at our new Shelford Campus.

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Campus, the Junior School Languages (Mandarin) Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and learning leaders to deliver an engaging and contemporary Mandarin Language program that reflects the School's values and commitment to excellence. Through a dynamic and student-centred approach, you will provide meaningful language learning experiences that foster communication skills, cultural understanding, curiosity and confidence.

Working with students, you will have the unique opportunity to design and implement well-structured learning programs that support students' linguistic, social and intellectual development. You will create inclusive and engaging learning environments that cater to diverse learning needs, encourage active participation and support every student to achieve success.

As a founding member of the Shelford Campus team, you will play a key role in shaping a positive culture of learning, collaboration and innovation. You will contribute to the development of a vibrant and connected school community where students are encouraged to embrace diversity, think globally and develop a lifelong passion for learning.

This role also includes an additional responsibility for the first year,



with dedicated time to lead the development of an aligned Mandarin curriculum across Caulfield Grammar School's three Junior Schools. Working in partnership with colleagues at our Malvern and Wheelers Hill campuses, you will drive a shared vision for high-quality language teaching and learning, develop an aligned Prep to Year 6 curriculum, and support best practice across all campuses.

This is a ongoing part-time chance which has a flexible FTE arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development and delivery of an engaging and high-quality Mandarin language program across the Junior Schools that promotes language acquisition, communication skills and intercultural understanding.
- Lead the design and implementation of well-sequenced learning experiences aligned with a quality curriculum and contemporary teaching practices.
- Engage in coaching to develop a shared understanding of best practice language teaching & learning.
- Use a range of effective teaching strategies to engage students and support learning across the full range of abilities.
- Create and maintain a safe, positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student wellbeing, participation and achievement.
- Differentiate teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse needs of students from a range of backgrounds and learning profiles.
- Integrate appropriate technologies and resources to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Assess, monitor and evaluate student progress, providing timely and meaningful feedback to support growth and achievement.
- Use assessment data and evidence-based practices to inform planning and improve student learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents and carers to support student learning and wellbeing.
- Actively participate in professional learning, faculty collaboration and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate active involvement in School life and contribute positively to the broader school community.

Skills And Qualifications

- Tertiary qualifications in Education.
- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.




- Experience coordinating curriculum design or implementation.
- Demonstrated experience teaching Mandarin within a primary or junior school setting.
- Strong knowledge of curriculum, assessment and contemporary language teaching practices.
- Proven ability to design and deliver engaging and differentiated learning programs that support diverse learners.
- Experience using a range of teaching strategies to promote student engagement, critical thinking and active participation.
- Ability to effectively integrate ICT into learning and teaching programs.
- Strong assessment and reporting skills, with the ability to use student data to inform teaching practice.
- Highly developed communication, organisational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships with students, families and colleagues.
- Commitment to professional learning, reflective practice and continuous improvement.
- Passion for language education and fostering students' understanding of different cultures and perspectives.
