Role Description This is a full-time, in office role based in Bundall, QLD, suitable for a Graduate Lawyer or a Criminal Lawyer with 1+ years post-admission experience (PAE). The role involves managing criminal, traffic, and domestic violence files under supervision, including taking instructions, reviewing evidence, drafting court documents, and preparing briefs. The successful candidate will appear in court for mentions, bail applications, and hearings, and will liaise with clients, counsel, prosecutors, and other stakeholders.
Day-to-day responsibilities also include legal research, drafting advices,
maintaining accurate file notes, and ensuring all deadlines and procedural requirements are met. The role offers hands-on exposure to a broad range of criminal matters and opportunities for ongoing professional development within a close-knit team.
Qualifications
- Admitted as a Lawyer, or eligible for admission in Queensland, with up to 1+ years PAE in criminal or related practice areas.
- Strong legal research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret legislation, case law, and court procedures.
- Proficient in drafting legal documents such as submissions, affidavits, correspondence, and court forms.
- Effective advocacy and communication skills, with confidence in court appearances and client interactions.
- Ability to manage multiple files, meet deadlines, and work accurately under pressure with strong attention to detail.
- High ethical standards, sound judgment, and a client-focused approach, including sensitivity in domestic violence and vulnerable client matters.
- Competence with legal practice management and document management systems, and general computer literacy.
- Commitment to continuous learning in criminal law, and willingness to work collaboratively within a small, supportive team setting.
