Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) is the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) representing the Bunurong people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.
We advocate for the protection of Bunurong cultural heritage, the care of Country, and the wellbeing of our community and workforce across Greater Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and the Bass Coast. Our work is grounded in culture, respect and strong governance.
About the Role
BLCAC is seeking a motivated and experienced CHO Team Leader to provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and support to our Cultural Heritage Officers.
Reporting to the Strong Culture Manager, this role plays a key part in leading and supporting the Cultural Heritage team while contributing to the delivery of cultural heritage assessments, field investigations, Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs) and related heritage management activities across Bunurong Country.
working closely with Bunurong Traditional Owners, Cultural Heritage Officers and the wider Strong Culture team, you will provide frontline leadership, mentoring and operational support to help deliver high-quality heritage outcomes, maintain legislative compliance and foster a positive, collaborative and culturally safe team environment.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong cultural heritage experience who enjoys supporting and developing others while remaining actively involved in fieldwork and heritage projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and support to Cultural Heritage Officers.
- Allocate workloads and coordinate team activities in consultation with the Strong Culture Manager.
- Conduct regular team check-ins and provide coaching,
mentoring and practical guidance.
- Support staff wellbeing, onboarding, capability development and workplace culture.
- Assist with team rosters, leave arrangements and timesheet management.
- Support Cultural Heritage Officers undertaking CHMPs, cultural heritage assessments, field investigations and related heritage activities.
- Lead by example through active participation in fieldwork, site inspections and cultural heritage activities.
- Promote a positive, accountable and culturally safe team environment that supports collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Support effective communication, information sharing and collaboration across the Cultural Heritage team and broader Strong Culture portfolio.
- Monitor workloads, identify operational issues and support effective allocation of resources across projects.
- Promote respectful engagement with Bunurong Traditional Owners and support compliance with cultural protocols and the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic).
- Escalate performance, conduct, wellbeing and operational issues to the Strong Culture Manager as required.
What You Bring
Qualifications and Experience
- Aboriginality is essential. Bunurong Nation is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience undertaking cultural heritage assessments, fieldwork or related heritage management activities.
- Demonstrated experience providing supervision, mentoring, coaching or day-to-day leadership to staff, field teams or work groups.
- Demonstrated ability to support and coordinate day-to-day operational activities within a team environment.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience using ACHRIS, heritage databases and digital mapping systems is desirable.
- Knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic), Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2018 and associated heritage management processes is desirable.
- Current Victorian Driver Licence.
- Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check, or willingness to obtain.
