About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is inviting Expressions of Interest for the position of Director of Medicine. This part-time (0.2 - 0.5 FTE), maximum-term 12-month contract opportunity is based at our South Brisbane campus.

The Director of Medicine provides leadership to the departments within the Division of Medicine (General Medicine and the medical subspecialties), with responsibilities that encompass all the domains of the quadruple aim – outcomes, stewardship, consumer experience and Mater People.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

As outlined in the new Medical Leadership model, the Director of Medicine will report to the Medical Services Lead operationally and professionally. Details of the position are contained in the attached Duties Descriptor however as this is a transitional role for 12 months, the Medical Services Lead will take substantial responsibility for issues pertaining to medical workforce, statewide responsibilities, strategic and operational planning, and participation with the Networked model with Mater Hospital Springfield. This will allow the Director of Medicine to focus on operational and professional leadership of the individual departments within the Division of Medicine.

This role would equally suit an experienced leader, or a clinician early in their leadership journey looking for an prospect to extend their leadership and management skills in a supportive environment.





About you The successful candidate must be eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and have extensive experience as a specialist within your clinical field.

- Proven leadership experience in directing and managing a clinical department is highly desirable
- Demonstrated commitment to the education and training of both junior and senior medical staff
- Active involvement in research, quality improvement, or risk management initiatives
- In-depth knowledge of current, evidence-based clinical practices is essential
- Strong ability to cultivate a positive, collaborative, and supportive team culture across medical, nursing/midwifery, allied health, and non-clinical staff
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels and to mentor colleagues and junior clinicians in enhancing their communication
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills, with the ability to objectively assess complex situations
