As Export Finance Australia continues to expand its financing activities domestically and internationally, effective risk transfer remains a critical capability to support sustainable portfolio growth within approved risk appetite.
The Director, Risk Solutions plays a key role in originating, structuring, negotiating and executing risk transfer transactions that support Export Finance Australia’s financing activities. Working closely with the Head of Risk Solutions, the Director is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with insurers, reinsurers, export credit agencies, multilateral development banks and financial institutions, while delivering commercially sound risk transfer solutions that enable business growth.
The role combines transaction execution, stakeholder management, portfolio oversight and market engagement. The Director provides specialist advice on risk mitigation strategies, contributes to the development of risk transfer frameworks and capabilities, and supports the ongoing evolution of Export Finance Australia’s risk solutions function.
You will:
- Lead the structuring, negotiation and execution of complex risk transfer arrangements, including insurance, reinsurance, guarantee and risk participation transactions.
- Manage transaction execution from origination through to documentation, approval and financial close.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with domestic and international insurers, brokers, export credit agencies, multilateral development banks and other counterparties.
- Identify opportunities to optimise portfolio concentration and support prudent growth through risk transfer strategies.
- Provide specialist advice to internal stakeholders on insurance structures, transaction risks,
portfolio management and emerging market developments.
- Support the development and implementation of risk transfer strategies, frameworks, policies and procedures.
- Monitor developments in global insurance, reinsurance and export finance markets and provide insights on market capacity, pricing and industry trends.
- Contribute to the management of key strategic relationships and represent Export Finance Australia at industry forums, conferences and stakeholder meetings.
- Lead cross-functional transaction teams and coordinate stakeholders to ensure timely and effective transaction delivery.
- Support capability development across Export Finance Australia by sharing technical expertise and mentoring team members.
- Support the Head of Risk Solutions in relation to Paris Club sovereign debt negotiations, documentation and administration, including technical advice to the Australian Government. The Paris Club is a group of official creditors whose role is to find co-ordinated and sustainable solutions to the payment difficulties experienced by debtor countries.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Significant experience in financial services, export finance, structured finance, project finance, credit risk, insurance or risk transfer.
- Demonstrated experience structuring and negotiating complex risk transfer, insurance, guarantee or syndicated risk-sharing arrangements.
- Strong understanding of credit, political, sovereign and market risks associated with international financing transactions.
- Experience managing complex stakeholder engagements with senior executives, insurers, brokers, legal advisers, financial institutions or government entities.
- Sound understanding of transaction documentation, credit assessment processes and risk management principles.
- Knowledge of global insurance and reinsurance markets, export credit agency frameworks and multilateral financing arrangements.
- Experience leading cross-functional transaction teams and delivering complex initiatives to tight deadlines.
- Understanding of international trade, export finance and Australian Government policy objectives would be highly regarded.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
- Strog analytical and commercial judgement.
- Ability to manage complex transactions simultaneously whilst managing multiple stakeholders.
- Degree qualified in a relevant subject and postgraduate qualifications would be viewed favourably.
