About Us

We are the home of harness racing in Victoria.

We are a seven day a week entertainment venue with a range of racing and non-racing offerings including 260-seat Bistro, extensive Conference and Events spaces, a 40-room 4-Star Mantra Hotel, Sports Bar, Gaming lounge and a state-of-the-art Harness Racing track. The venue operates 7 days a week.

The Duty Manager oversees and attends to the day to day operations of the MEP Venue, complying with regulatory requirements and company policies & procedures.

Leadership & Communication

- Lead by example and support all staff to conduct their day to day duties in a competent, friendly and efficient manner

- Communicate MEP policies & procedures, strategies and goals.

- Promote teamwork, personal presentation & image in line with Dress Code & Uniform Requirements

- Recognise and commend good performance / results

- Assist Department Managers identification of staff training needs

- Perform any ‘duty of care’ requirements for staff and customers

- Manage and observe staff to ensure they are adhering to MEP policies and procedures

- Reporting any misconduct in the workplace to appropriate senior managers

Customer Service Management

- Demonstrate MEP Customer Service Standards and personally communicate to staff as required.

- Respond to guest concerns and take responsibility for resolving issues

Operations & Compliance

- Manage compliance of RSA, RSG, TAB, VGCCC & Liquor Control Victoria Regulations

- Daily checks to ensure we are compliant with VGCCC, RSA, RSG, TAB & regulations

- Ensure compliance to all MEP values, policies and procedures, OH&S;, safety standards, food and hygiene standards and qualified venue presentation

- Control Keys and Security Passes for the Venue

- Manage cash controls & report variances to Venue Manager

- Understanding of TAB & VGCCC regulations & requirements as per licensing requirements





- Assist Senior Management to plan tasks, promotions, review resources to meet guest needs, set work standards and allocate priorities

- Assist Senior Duty Manager to manage security requirements

- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in work processes and procedures and implement changes in workplace practices

- Actively promote MEP TAB/Sports Bar facilities and contribute to the development of new promotional activities for the venue to maximise revenues

- Assist in Venue presentation through effective supervision during operating hours and routine inspections

- Report any maintenance issue to maintain facilities

- Maintain time and attendance system on a daily basis checking that staff shifts are accurate (Time sheets authorised to meet payroll requirements)

- Ensure all rosters are adequately covered

- In consultation with other DM’s responsible for stock ordering, control and par levels

- Assist all departments as required when rostered as Duty Manager

- Manage self to optimum level attending training courses that fulfil development plan

- Ensure security cameras are working and checked daily (each shift) as part of compliance requirements

- Ensure compliance reporting and staff certification is current, updated, documented and filed.

Financial Management, Administration & Cash Control

- Accurate reconciliations of Tills, System One & TAB. Identify errors & variances and take appropriate action as per legal requirements

- ATM clearance and reconciliation. Ensure adequate funds in the ATM for daily operations

- Ensure accurate stock control measures are in place and monitored including transfers and stock movement

- Ensure all financial systems are working and reporting in place

- Management of Strong Room and Cash Collections

- Report all variances and review processes to find imbalances.

- Adhere to MEP cash handling procedures.

Security & Emergency Procedures

- Ensure venue is secure each shift and locked at end of day/night

- Ensure staff are trained and aware of our emergency procedures and evacuation when left alone in morning and overnight





- Responsible for Emergency Response including Fire, Threat, Security and First Aid attendance/accident/illness.

Communication & Administration

- Prepare and send a daily hand over and communicate any concerns to Security, Department Managers, Venue Manager, General Manager and HRV as required

- Keep relevant Management & Staff informed of regulatory compliance and procedural changes

- Communicate concerns or training gaps of staff to relevant Department Managers e.g. Cash Handling, Performance, Customer Service Standards, compliance

- Communicate cash variances to General Manager

- Assist in communicating relevant operating information discussed at Management meeting with departmental team members

Qualifications and Experience

- Previous experience in a multi-faceted hospitality venue

Skills and Attributes

- Organisationally self-aware e.g. driving improvements, demonstrating policies, procedures and compliance focused

- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills

- Ability to work and make decisions under pressure

- Ability to stay calm in an emergency or high pressure situation

- Ability to cope with the rigours of shift work including weekends and nights

- Demonstrated ability to supervise, lead, motivate and empower a team

- Demonstrated organisation, time management and prioritising skills

- Ability to manage team and delegate responsibilities as required

- Advanced customer service skills and ability to use discretion to solve customer issues

Availability

Must be available to work a rotating roster including days, nights, weekends and all major events.
