KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Lesson Planning and Curriculum Delivery
- Plan and deliver engaging, learner-centred English language lessons across all four macro-skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing — aligned to the course syllabus and student proficiency levels.
- Develop lesson plans, learning materials and supplementary resources that reflect current communicative language teaching (CLT) methodology and are contextualised to student needs.
- Deliver instruction across multiple ELICOS program streams as required — including General English, EAP, IELTS/Cambridge Examination Preparation and English for Specific Purposes (ESP).
- Adapt teaching approach, pace and materials in real time to accommodate diverse learning styles, cultural backgrounds and proficiency levels within each class.
2. Assessment and Feedback
- Design, administer and mark formative and summative assessments in accordance with course requirements and the National ELICOS Standards.

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student assessment records in the College's student management system.
3. Student Progress and Attendance Monitoring
- Monitor and record student attendance at every class session; report absences and non-attendance in accordance with the College's attendance policy and National Code Standard 8 obligations.
- Track student course progress against learning outcomes; identify at-risk students early and implement targeted support strategies or refer to the Student Services team.
- Participate in student progress reviews and case management discussions; contribute to the At-Risk Student Register with documented intervention actions.
- Communicate student progress concerns promptly to the Program Coordinator and cooperate in any welfare or intervention referrals.
4. Classroom Management and Student Wellbeing
- Maintain a positive, inclusive and respectful classroom setting that values cultural diversity and promotes student engagement and wellbeing.
- Apply the College's Student Code of Conduct and behavioural expectations consistently; manage classroom incidents in accordance with policy.
- Support students transitioning to study in an English-speaking environment; promote student independence, academic integrity and intercultural communication skills.
- Identify students exhibiting signs of distress or difficulty; refer to Student Services or welfare support in a timely and sensitive manner.
5. Compliance and Regulatory Obligations
- Ensure all teaching and assessment activities comply with the National ELICOS Standards (NES), NEAS Quality Assurance Framework, CRICOS registration requirements and National Code 2018.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and on time — including attendance rolls, assessment records, student progress notes and any mandatory reporting.
- Participate in the College's internal quality assurance processes including lesson observations, peer review and student feedback surveys.
- Maintain awareness of and adherence to the ESOS Act 2000 obligations as they relate to international student welfare and course delivery.
6. Collaboration and Professional Development
- Collaborate with fellow ELICOS trainers and Program Coordinator to ensure consistency of standards, sharing of resources and coordinated curriculum delivery.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions and mandatory training as scheduled.
- Maintain English language teaching currency through ongoing professional learning — including membership of relevant professional associations (e.g. ACTA, ELSA) and participation in CPD activities.
- Contribute to curriculum reviews, resource development and continuous improvement initiatives as directed by the Program Coordinator.
7. Administrative Responsibilities
- Submit lesson plans, class reports and attendance records within required timeframes.
