One of Australia's best known digital marketplace businesses is building something new, and they need someone to build it with them.

Behind the core consumer product sits a brand new commercial division, targeting a completely different customer base from day one. It's early. There's no legacy team to inherit, no roadmap already locked in, and no established way of doing things to work around.

Instead of a scaled-up team waiting for someone to run it, you get a startup-style bet the business is making before it commits further headcount, and the person who takes this on gets to prove it out and shape what it becomes.

Get the next 12-24 months right and the scope grows fast: white-label offerings and data integration are already next on the roadmap.

What You'd Own:

- A lean crew of 4x engineers, yours to lead and scale with the platforms success
- Full localisation, launch and delivery of a new product line into the Australian market
- Technical direction, architecture and the build-vs-buy roadmap, set by you from day one
- A seat outside the core tech structure, reporting into the business side rather than up through engineering leadership
- Real relationships with senior sales and commercial stakeholders, not just product and engineering peers

Who This Is For:





- You're a Senior Tech Lead or Engineering Manager ready for the step up into business leadership, not someone looking to retreat into full-time coding.
- You'll stay hands-on, roughly 20-30% of your time, across the codebase, design reviews and architecture decisions, while spending the rest building the team and setting direction.
- Backend depth in C#/.NET, frontend fluency in React/TypeScript, and real experience designing and running scalable distributed systems and event-driven architecture in AWS, not just reading about it.
- Comfortable owning microservices, REST/GraphQL APIs, and modern DevOps practice (CI/CD, automation, observability) end to end, from design through to production.
- Track record leading platform modernisation or transformation work, taking a system from where it is to where it needs to be.
- Applied knowledge of TDD, BDD, Domain-Driven Design and contemporary application security practice, the kind of engineering discipline that holds up as the team and the stack grow.
- Commercially minded. You can sit across the table from a non-technical stakeholder and talk ROI, cost and speed to market as comfortably as you talk architecture.
- An entrepreneurial mindset, energised by building something from a small base rather than inheriting something established.
