Role Description This full-time remote role as an Entry Level Software Developer / Junior Developer / Software Developer at VU Earth Sciences focuses on building and maintaining software solutions that support earth sciences data analysis and visualization. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing clean, effective code, assisting in the design and implementation of back-end services and APIs, and collaborating with senior developers on feature development and bug fixes. The role involves participating in code reviews, creating technical documentation, and testing software to ensure quality and reliability.
The developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, implement improvements, and support deployments in a modern development environment.
Qualifications
- Foundational knowledge in Computer Science, including algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles.
- Skills in Software Development and Programming,
with experience in at least one modern programming language (such as Python, Java, C#, or JavaScript).
- Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and ability to apply them in designing and implementing software components.
- Exposure to Back-End Web Development, including working with APIs, databases, and server-side frameworks.
- Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a remote, team-oriented environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and basic software development lifecycle practices is beneficial.
