- APS3 casual Federal Government events opportunity in Canberra

McArthur is seeking a capable and adaptable APS3 Events Operations Officer to support a Canberra-based Federal Government agency with the operational delivery of events across nationally significant public spaces.

This is a casual, operationally focused position suited to someone with experience in events, venue operations, site coordination, customer service or a similar environment who is comfortable working both administratively and on the ground at events.

The role will average approximately 10 hours per week, although hours will vary according to the events calendar. The busiest period is generally September to March, when additional availability may be required, while quieter periods may include weeks where no shifts are available.

The successful candidate will need flexibility to work across weekdays and weekends, with occasional morning and evening work.

The Role

Working as part of an established Events team, you will assist with the safe and effective delivery of events from initial site activity through to event completion.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing on-site operational support during event bump-in, event delivery and bump-out.
- Monitoring activities against approved event and site requirements and escalating issues where required.
- Liaising professionally with event organisers, contractors, members of the public and internal stakeholders.
- Providing event organisers with guidance regarding site access, operating requirements and established procedures.
- Identifying and escalating safety, maintenance, asset or operational concerns.
- Assisting with pre-event and post-event site inspections,

WHS checks and site condition reporting.
- Maintaining accurate records of inspections, event activity, incidents and operational issues.
- Supporting smaller events and bookings, including community events, filming activities and other organised activities.
- Assisting with access arrangements, including the issuing, tracking and handover of keys where required.
- Responding to routine phone and email enquiries and assisting with management of the Events inbox.
- Providing general event administration and record-keeping support.
- Attending meetings and site visits with event organisers as required.
- Working collaboratively with other operational teams to assist with event-related requirements.

About You

We are particularly interested in candidates who have previous experience within events, event operations, venues, festivals, public events, visitor services, facilities operations or a similar operational environment.

To be successful, you will demonstrate:

- Previous experience supporting the delivery or operation of events, venues or public-facing activities.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confidence communicating with event organisers, contractors, stakeholders and members of the public.
- The ability to follow established procedures while exercising sound judgement when issues arise.
- Good written communication and administrative skills.
- Robust attention to detail, particularly when completing inspections, reports and records.

- The ability to recognise operational, safety or compliance issues and upscale these appropriately.
- A practical and proactive approach to problem solving.
- The ability to work independently when undertaking routine duties as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends and occasional mornings or evenings according to event requirements.
- The ability and willingness to undertake a physically active role involving regular walking, standing and outdoor work.

Experience working within Government, major events, public spaces, event venues, festivals, cultural institutions or large-scale community events will be highly regarded.

This is not a traditional Monday-to-Friday office-based events position. Candidates must be comfortable working on-site and outdoors, including standing and walking for extended periods.

The role may also involve regular lifting of items up to 10kg and occasional lifting above 10kg.

The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.

Due to the nature of casual event operations, hours cannot be guaranteed each week. Candidates should therefore have sufficient flexibility to accommodate changing event schedules.

Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build or continue their experience in Government events and event operations while contributing to the delivery of events across some of Canberra's most prominent public spaces.

You will gain exposure to event operations, stakeholder coordination, site management, compliance, WHS and Government processes while working alongside an experienced Events team.

If you have hands-on events or operational experience and are looking for flexible casual work in Canberra, we would like to hear from you.
