We do something different

One month you're logging vacuum drill holes through high-purity silica sand dunes in Far North Queensland — domaining on colour, particle size and iron content, modelling the water table beneath the dunes. The next you're back in the office, working alongside a senior geologist on the Leapfrog model of a limestone deposit that has to feed a cement kiln, inside a narrow chemical window, for the next forty years. Then a hard rock quarry hemmed in by growing suburbs, where the value of an irreplaceable reserve lives or dies on how well the geology is understood.

That's a normal quarter here.

Our clients run quarries, cement operations and industrial minerals sites — deposits measured in decades, permitted last century, and impossible to replace. Everything downstream — the resource, the designs, the schedules, the reserves — is built on the geology. Log it well and model it honestly, and you extend the life of an asset that a business is built on. These seemingly straightforward commodities have unique challenges of their own.

That is the work. It rewards geologists who want their mapping and logging to become the model, and the model to become the mine plan — and who measure success by the practical value added on the ground, not the reports filed.

Who you'd be working for

We are the trusted technical advisor to operators across Australia and Recent Zealand — from the largest construction materials and cement producers in the industry to family-owned quarry groups and councils where we effectively are their technical department: their surveyor, their geologist, their geotechnical engineer, their mine planner and scheduling engineer.

Eltirus is Brisbane-based and a Deswik and Seequent partner. Our first rule of business is "we work with people we like and can help", and we're a successful, growing team who are flexible, enjoy working together and don't take ourselves too seriously.

The role

You'll join our geology team, working with — and mentored by — senior geologists and Competent Persons who sign off on JORC work every month.

The rhythm of the work — and why it's different:

- Long-term site stewardship, not one-off studies. For many clients we run the full annual cycle — drill programme, geological model update, resource assessment — on the same sites, year after year. Your logging from this season becomes the model you refine next season.
- Field programmes across a genuinely varied portfolio — geological mapping, drill programmes, and chip and core logging, from coastal dune sands to basalt quarries to greenfields prospects.
- A structured pathway into the office-based side of the craft: graphical logs and drilling data management first, then geological modelling in Leapfrog Geo with training and mentoring, then contributing to resource assessments under the JORC Code — a real pathway to Competent Person status.
- Working alongside geotechnical engineers,

mining engineers and surveyors, so you see where your geology goes and what it has to hold up.
- Drone surveys (if you'd like to learn!)

The honest version of the conditions:

- Brisbane-based, hybrid, with genuine flexibility once you're through orientation and training — we care what you deliver, not when you were at a desk.
- Site travel for field programmes is usually no more than about two weeks per quarter.
- Our reporting standard, data management and file naming discipline will surprise you at first. That's the appeal. If it isn't, this isn't the right role.

What we need

Essential

- Sound mapping, chip and core logging skills — this is the foundation the role is built on.
- Solid exploration and/or mine geology experience, with the ability to run a field programme.
- A degree in geology or a closely related discipline.
- Strong report writing and data management habits, and the discipline to work within them.
- A genuine appetite to learn modelling and resource assessment skills.

Highly regarded

- Exposure to Leapfrog Geo or other implicit modelling packages.
- Experience in industrial minerals, sand, aggregates or quarrying commodities.
- Familiarity with the JORC Code and resource reporting.
- Drone piloting experience or a remote pilot licence.

No industrial minerals experience? That's fine — we provide the training, and the geology is more interesting than it looks from outside.
