The role
Transdev is offering several casual General Purpose Hand positions to passionate and service orientated individuals who are interested in joining Transdev Sydney Ferries on a casual basis.
This is an entry-level role with significant growth opportunities to develop your skills in maritime transport with opportunities to progress to permanent full-time employment as vacancies become available. So, if your focused on providing customers a unique and special opportunity onboard our vessel and have the customer service “know how” then this is a role for you.
Your key duties will involve:
- Working closely with our customers to ensure their care, comfort and safety, including answering enquires and provide them with updated information about routes and timetables.
- Supervising gangways for boarding and disembarking vessels, ensuring passenger safety
- Participating in the daily operations, navigation (e.g. Lookout) and GPH duties on TDSF vessels
- Conducting safety inspections, providing emergency assistance as required and ensuring the vessels and wharves are kept clean.

What You Bring What will make you a successful candidate in this role is the ability to collaborate well in a team environment with customer service being the key focus of the position. Apart from being a people-person, you will also have the following qualifications/certificates:
- Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Certificate I in Maritime Operations (GPH near Coastal)
- Certificate of Competency (near coastal) card issued by AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority)/ Integrated Rating Ticket/ Able Seafarer Deck Rating (or equivalent e.g. Record of Service Book) or upon waiting on your card,
the official “Certificate of Competency Letter” issued from AMSA identifying the following: Name, Cert Number, Grade/Class(es), Issue Date, Expiry Date, Endorsement &
- Restrictions
- Demonstrated ability to swim 50 metres or equivalent (Download Water Competency Form )
- Possess a current Provide First Aid Certificate (HLTAID009/010/011)
Successful candidates will commit to an initial 2–3 week training program, be available to work shift work (including weekends) during our peak operating period from December 2026 to January 2027 and must have a minimum availability of three days per week on an ongoing basis.
