Desert Blue Connect

Geraldton

A new service. A meaningful role. A real opportunity to change lives.

Desert Blue Connect has been awarded funding to deliver an important FDV service in Geraldton, and we’re looking for a compassionate and capable Outreach Support Worker to join our busy team.

This role is for someone who wants their work to matter. You’ll walk alongside people experiencing family and domestic violence, helping them understand their options, strengthen their safety and move towards a life free from violence.

The position may be offered full time or part-time for the right person.

About the role

As part of our Family and Domestic Violence Outreach team, you will provide practical, emotional and trauma-informed support to people experiencing family and domestic violence.

No two days will be the same. You may help someone develop a safety plan, support them through court, connect them with emergency accommodation or advocate for the services they need. You’ll work closely with other agencies while ensuring each client’s voice, choices and safety remain at the centre of the response.

Key responsibilities

- Complete assessments to identify each client’s risks, needs, strengths and priorities

- Develop individual safety plans and practical support strategies

- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support during times of distress or increased risk

- Support clients attending court and help them understand available options

- Connect clients with accommodation, legal assistance, financial support, health services and other community resources

- Advocate for clients and help them navigate complex service systems

- Work collaboratively with police, legal services,

housing providers, health services and other agencies

- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential case notes

- Participate in case reviews, professional supervision and team meetings

About you

You will bring empathy, sound judgement and the ability to remain calm when situations are complex. You understand that supporting someone does not mean making decisions for them—it means listening, providing options and helping them regain choice and control.

We’re looking for someone who has:

- A qualification, or is working towards a qualification, in community services, social work or a related discipline

- Experience supporting people affected by family and domestic violence
- An understanding of trauma-informed practice, coercive control and the dynamics of family and domestic violence

- Strong crisis-management and de-escalation skills

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds
- The ability to balance warmth and compassion with clear professional boundaries

- Strong organisational skills and confidence managing a complex caseload
- A commitment to culturally safe practice, particularly when working with Aboriginal people, families and communities

- A current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one
- A current driver’s licence and access to reliable transport

What we offer

This is demanding work, and we know that supporting our people is essential. You’ll receive:

- A competitive salary based on your qualifications and experience

- Salary packaging to increase your take-home pay

- Ongoing training and professional development

- Regular supervision and mentoring from experienced practitioners
- A welcoming, supportive and collaborative team

- Access to an Employee Assistance Program and wellbeing resources

- Flexible working arrangements where operationally possible
- A workplace that understands the emotional demands of FDV work and takes staff wellbeing seriously
