Role Summary and Purpose

The Head of Casualty is responsible for developing and implementing the Underwriting Strategy for the Specific Product Line (Casualty), in consultation and agreement with the Managing Director r for AUALA, the Chief Underwriting Officer of Arch International, and the Product Line Head of Casualty at Arch International.

The Role is tasked with achieving profitable premium growth in line with Arch targets and within Arch Guidelines.

The Head of Casualty is a key member of the leadership team; setting expectations, driving results, maintaining team culture, and managing their specific underwriting team.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

- Underwrite Casualty (public and product liability) Products.
- Manage a team of underwriters – underwriting the specific class of business.
- Develop maintain and maximise distribution networks/opportunities.
- Achieve planned underwriting results for new and existing business.
- Provide professional service to intermediaries.
- Develop the technical expertise of all underwriting staff, effectively managing direct reports and their performance.
- Establish premium plans and maintaining credit control of business written.
- Establish/revise or update Underwriting guidelines as required.
- Train, coach and mentor team members to achieve planned underwriting targets.
- Communicate the strategic direction to all staff within control, maintaining high visibility and strong leadership.
- Regional Travel as required by the business.
- Communicate organizational goals with team members and clarify set expectations.
- Monitor employees’ productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
- Oversee employee’s performance; organize regular 1:1 meeting to discuss performance, manage underperformance, conduct annual performance reviews, support setting annual goals.
- Provide guidance, support and mentoring to the employees.
- Identify development needs of employees and discuss career development aspirations.
- Review leave requests as per the policies, oversee team operation, manage employees’ workload and attendance.
- Conduct disciplinary conversations when required.
- Manage recruitment process within reasonable timeframe; identify recruitment needs, conduct interviews and provide feedback.
- Prepare and manage onboarding of new employees; prepare new employee’s training.
- Ensure adherence to legal and company policies and procedures is undertaken.

General responsibilities

- Collaborate effectively with other business units.
- Adhere to company’s policies,



procedures and local guidance as well as to the legislation.
- Other reasonable duties as directed by the business, within the scope of the role.

Role Requirements & Skills

- Displayed effective and strong leadership skills.
- Demonstrate a proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Display customer service-oriented approach.
- Display innovating and solution-oriented approach.
- Possess strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrable experience in portfolio management.
- Demonstrable experience in the underwriting class specified.

Qualifications

- Tertiary qualifications- desirable but not essential.
- Relevant Industry Qualifications

Experience

- Minimum 10 years’ experience working in the specific underwriting class: or relevant industry experience.
