QHES Manager – Health, Safety & Environment focus 12-month fixed-term contract (parental leave cover) | Sumner Park, Brisbane

Own the safety of a busy food manufacturing site and leave it stronger than you found it. This is a leadership role for a WHS-driven professional who knows how to build a genuine safety culture on the factory floor - not just manage a system on paper.

About the role

Covering a 12-month period of parental leave, you'll take ownership of Quality, Health, Safety and Workplace across the site. The focus of this role is squarely on work health, safety and environmental compliance - you'll set the direction, coach the team, and keep the business audit-ready, while routine monitoring and administration sits with your site team, production leaders and interns. You'll lead up to three direct reports and work across every part of the business.

What you'll own

Health & Safety

The site's WHS management system and full compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld) and relevant Codes of Practice.

Risk management, incident investigation, and WorkCover / return-to-work processes.

The site induction and training program, driving a proactive safety culture with day-to-day execution delegated to team leaders.

Delivering against clear targets: zero notifiable incidents and year-on-year reductions in TRIFR and LTIFR.

The site's environmental obligations - waste,



trade waste, stormwater and council/EPA requirements.

Environmental improvement initiatives such as waste reduction, with zero environmental non-compliances as the standard.

Quality & Food Safety

Oversight of the HACCP-based food safety and quality system, acting as SQF Practitioner and GFCO primary contact, and hosting external audits (SQF, GFCO, SEDEX, customer).

Supplier assurance, raw material verification and closure of non-conformances, supported by the QHES team.

What you'll bring

A WHS qualification and/or demonstrated experience owning WHS systems in a food manufacturing environment.

Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation and environmental compliance obligations for a manufacturing site.

Confidence leading incident investigation, risk management and return-to-work.

A food safety and quality background is highly valued - ideally SQF Practitioner with current HACCP certification.

Internal auditing and root-cause / problem-solving skills.

The leadership presence to prioritise, delegate, and empower a team, and communicate clearly with everyone from the floor to external auditors.
