Role Description This on-site Heavy Vehicle Mechanic role is based in Australia and involves the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy vehicles and related equipment used in water and infrastructure projects. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, performing scheduled servicing, conducting safety inspections, and completing necessary documentation and maintenance records. The role also involves working closely with operations teams to minimise downtime, ensuring vehicles comply with regulatory standards,
and adhering to company safety and environmental procedures.
The Heavy Vehicle
Mechanic may be required to attend breakdowns on job sites, support the fleet with preventative maintenance planning, and contribute to continuous improvement of workshop practices.
Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (or equivalent) and demonstrated experience working with heavy trucks, plant, and construction equipment.
- Strong diagnostic and repair skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems, with the ability to troubleshoot issues efficiently.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices, service scheduling, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and specifications, and accurately complete maintenance records and reports.
- Current valid driver’s licence (Heavy Vehicle licence highly regarded) and willingness to travel to various sites as required.
- Commitment to safe work practices, teamwork, and effective communication with supervisors, colleagues, and project teams.
- Previous experience in infrastructure, civil construction, or water industry projects is advantageous.
- Flexibility to work occasional overtime or varied hours to support project and fleet requirements.
