Rohrig Constructions
Brisbane
Our Company
Rohrig is a commercial construction company operating across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sydney. For over 35 years, we have built a strong reputation for delivering quality projects and creating lasting value for our clients. Our success is driven by our people, our culture and our commitment to developing excellent talent. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an IT Manager to join our team in Newstead, Brisbane.
Our People & Value Proposition
We focus on attracting and retaining talented people while creating an environment where they can build a long-term career. Our employee value proposition includes an annual conference and awards night, access to our Executive Health Solution program, Rohrig Social Club, professional development opportunities and ongoing opportunities to upskill and grow.
About the Role
This is a newly created position and Rohrig’s first internal IT role, giving you the opportunity to shape how technology is managed across the business. The IT Manager will have overall accountability for Rohrig’s technology environment across our offices and project sites from the systems our people rely on every day, through to the security of our business and information, the performance and cost of our technology suppliers, and the technology roadmap that takes us forward.
Technology is currently delivered through an external managed service provider. A key part of this role will be to establish and lead Rohrig’s internal IT function, determining what we manage internally and what we continue to outsource. You will bring greater visibility and control to our technology spend, strengthen our cyber security posture, and identify practical opportunities to use automation and AI to improve the way our people work.
You will have the opportunity to operate strategically and influence how the business uses technology, while also being hands-on when the situation requires it whether that means managing an escalation,
supporting a site mobilisation or setting up a laptop for a new Site Supervisor.
We are looking for someone who enjoys ownership, is comfortable working autonomously and can balance strategic thinking with practical delivery.
What You'll Be Doing
- Take overall ownership of Rohrig’s IT environment across offices, project sites and our distributed workforce.
- Establish and develop Rohrig’s internal IT function, including defining the appropriate balance between internal capability and external service providers.
- Develop and implement a clear technology roadmap aligned with Rohrig’s business objectives and growth.
- Administer and oversee our Microsoft 365 environment, including Entra ID, Intune, Defender and associated cloud services.
- Maintain and improve IT infrastructure, business systems and technology across all locations.
- Strengthen Rohrig’s cyber security posture, with a practical focus on identity and access management, backup and recovery, security controls and security awareness.
- Ensure our technology environment is reliable, secure and fit for purpose across office and project environments.
- Own or contribute to the IT budget, providing visibility over technology expenditure and identifying opportunities to improve value and efficiency.
- Identify and deliver practical automation, AI and technology improvements that enhance productivity and the employee experience.
- Work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand technology requirements and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support site mobilisations,
major technology changes and business-critical escalations when required.
- Provide hands-on support when needed, including user setup, device deployment and troubleshooting.
- Develop appropriate IT processes, documentation, governance and controls as the internal function matures.
What You'll Bring
- At least 8 years' experience in information technology, including a minimum of 3 years as the senior or sole IT professional within an organisation of approximately 100–300 employees, or as a capable second-in-charge ready to step into that level of ownership.
- Demonstrated experience managing external IT suppliers or a managed service provider, including service levels, performance management and contract renewals.
- Robust hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Defender and cloud services within a business environment.
- Practical cyber security experience, including identity and access management, backup and recovery, security awareness and the implementation of appropriate security controls.
- Experience supporting multiple offices, project sites or a distributed/mobile workforce.
- Experience owning or contributing to an IT budget, with a strong understanding of technology costs and vendor management.
- Broad technical knowledge across IT infrastructure, cloud services, networking and business systems.
What We Offer
This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of IT within a growing Australian construction business and build the foundations of an internal technology function. In return for your experience and commitment, we offer a competitive remuneration package, opportunities for career development and the chance to have a genuine impact on how Rohrig operates and grows.
If you're looking for a role where you can shape the strategy, build the function and still stay close to the technology, we'd love to hear from you.
