Role

We are looking for a Lead Advisor or Senior Advisor to join the Sourcing and Commercial Management team within the Commercial Services unit. This role will report to the Manager, Sourcing and Commercial Management. This is a senior ICT procurement specialist role focused on leading complex digital and technology sourcing initiatives:

- End to End Sourcing: Lead complex sourcing activities from start to finish.
- Excellence: Provide strategic commercial leadership on contract amendments, variations and Statements of Work, negotiating outcomes that manage risk, support delivery objectives and protect the Ministry's interests.
- High-Impact Leadership: Understand the direction of our Digital partners and provide advice and support for them to implement required commercial change.
- Market Trend Innovator: Stay ahead of the curve by analysing market trends and knowing your suppliers' businesses.
- Master of Negotiations: Engage in complex negotiations with top-tier stakeholders, ensuring that every dollar spent maximises value.
- Mentorship and Growth: Build and develop the capabilities of your team and stakeholders, while also expanding your own expertise and making a tangible, lasting impact on the community.

Skills

You will be a self-starter, with a strong focus and great ability to work under pressure.



You'll also bring with strong adaptable communication skills giving you the ability to engage with multiple stakeholders of all levels and navigate competing priorities and you'll also:

- Have a procurement, commercial or legal background and/or qualification.
- Have experience in procuring:
- Cloud, SaaS, and managed services models,
- Integration with digital investment and architecture decision‑making, and
- Data, privacy, security and interoperability considerations in sourcing.
- Be able to identify, analyse, and capitalise on business opportunities. This includes understanding market trends, financial implications, and strategic business drivers that can impact the Ministry's strategic direction.
- Have extensive experience in managing and negotiating contracts, with a thorough understanding of legal terms and conditions, risk management, and compliance requirements. The candidate should be adept at ensuring that contracts are aligned with the Ministry's objectives and provide value while mitigating potential risks.
- Have a strong customer focus and willingness to look for solutions to problems or issues on behalf of stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to being a supportive and approachable team player, where colleagues feel comfortable seeking your advice and guidance, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work workplace.
- Have an in-depth understanding of the Government Procurement Rules and how they should be applied in complex situations.
- Be committed to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Utu ā-tau/Salary The appointing salary for this role will be between $130,129 and $179,192 for the Lead Advisor role and $99,208 and $135,539 for the Senior Advisor role, based on skills and experience.
