The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking Japanese dishes in accordance with the restaurant's recipes, food quality standards and presentation requirements. The successful applicant will work closely with the kitchen team to ensure food is prepared efficiently and consistently during service.
Key responsibilities
Prepare and cook a range of Japanese dishes in accordance with established recipes and cooking methods.
Prepare ingredients including meat, seafood, vegetables, sauces and other food products for cooking.
Check the quality and freshness of food ingredients before preparation and cooking.
Operate and regulate cooking equipment including grills, ovens, cooktops, fryers and other kitchen equipment.
Season and cook food to achieve the required flavour, texture and presentation.
Portion and plate dishes consistently according to restaurant standards.
Prepare sauces, garnishes and other components required for menu items.
Monitor cooking times and temperatures to maintain consistent food quality.
Assist with food preparation and kitchen operations during busy service periods.
Store food and ingredients appropriately and maintain suitable temperature-controlled storage.
About you
Relevant qualifications in commercial cookery are highly regarded.
Previous experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen or restaurant environment.
Experience preparing Japanese or Asian cuisine will be highly regarded.
Good knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods.
Robust attention to food quality, presentation and consistency.
Understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Availability to work full-time, including weekends and public holidays as required by the business.
