About the Role The Advocacy and Impact business unit exists to champion, protect and enhance the professional lives of our members. We do this through evidence based advocacy, practical education, impactful research, sustainability leadership, philanthropic investment and a trusted public voice for the medical profession.
This role is responsible for contributing to this by assisting in developing, maintaining and delivering medico-legal content to support:
- education of members
- changes to health-related legislation, regulation and policy
The role requires understanding and experience of the medico-legal and health landscape in Australia and the ability to write and deliver high quality medico-legal content in submissions to external bodies and educational material for members.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Deliver Medico-Legal Education
- Research and analyse contemporary medico-legal topics affecting doctors
- Develop educational content across a range of formats, including presentations, webinars, articles, videos, podcasts and online resources
- Deliver engaging presentations and educational sessions to members and stakeholders
- Ensure content is accurate, practical and relevant across different medical specialties
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to produce high quality resources
Support Advocacy and Policy Development
- Conduct legal, regulatory and policy research on emerging healthcare and medico-legal issues
- Contribute to the development of organisational positions on key advocacy topics
- Draft submissions, discussion papers, briefing notes, articles and other advocacy materials
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting medical practitioners
Contribute to Strategic Outcomes
- Provide expert legal and medico-legal advice to support organisational priorities
- Contribute insights from research, environmental scanning and stakeholder feedback
- Support senior leaders, including the Chief Medical Officer and Advocacy leadership team, with research and policy initiatives
About You To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent qualification
- Demonstrated experience in health law and medico-legal matters
- Strong understanding of the Australian healthcare and medico-legal landscape
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent research, analysis and problem-solving capability
- Solid organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
Desirable
- Experience within insurance or medical indemnity environments
