We are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Occupational Hygienist / Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Consultant, to join a small (approx. 8 employees) and growing Melbourne-based consultancy. You will be tasked with taking the reins in delivering projects and growing our burgeoning HazMat consulting services line, working collaboratively with our strong environmental risk and contaminated land team. We envision that the role will initially involve more hands-on project delivery (for awarded works) and rapidly evolve into directing project teams, review work and maintaining client relationships.
Our team comprises a group of enthusiastic and engaged professionals delivering interesting, varied environmental risk management projects. You will enjoy working closely with the team within our well-established business and data systems and be supported by our senior leadership team who can provide guidance, support and professional development (and we encourage staff to complete industry provided training).
Key Responsibilities
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Provide expert advice on hazardous materials to our clients
Conduct inspections, interpret data and provide technical reporting for WHS & OHS compliance (i.e. Division 5/6 surveys)
Develop and supervise sampling and remediation programs including air monitoring, asbestos removal and abatement in accordance with industry and government legislation
Lead the identification and building of business development opportunities for our HazMat services
Maintain strong relationships with industry, regulators, suppliers and internal teams
Manage and contribute to the overall delivery of HazMat projects on or ahead of schedule, including actively directing project staff to manage schedule, costs, revenue and risks
Provide guidance and transfer of HazMat knowledge to project staff
About You
You will have the following qualifications/experience:
Have tertiary training in HazMat, occupational hygiene or similar
Have a minimum of 5 years relevant working experience in HazMat surveys and removal/abatement supervision
Be an excellent communicator (both written and verbal) with the ability to work cohesively within a team setting
Have a firm understanding and proven experience within the Victorian regulatory framework (EPA, WorkSafe, OHS Regulations 2017), guidelines and trends related to HazMat assessment, management and risks
Highly Regarded
The ideal candidate may also have the following:
Have a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Engineering, Science or Occupational Hygiene
Membership (or working towards it) with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH)
NATA-accredited asbestos fibre counting using Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) via the Membrane Filter Method (NOHSC:3003).
Experience with third-party auditing / inspections
Experience with contaminated land projects including Preliminary and Detailed Site Investigations (PSI/DSI)
