The Overseas Market Manager, Commercial Vehicles is responsible for driving Weichai’s commercial vehicle business development and market expansion in Australia, with a particular focus on OEM development, powertrain applications, distributor and dealer relationships, fleet customers, product positioning, and strategic account management.
The role requires a strong understanding of Australia’s highly developed commercial vehicle market, customer expectations, technical standards, emissions requirements, fleet operating conditions, and total cost of ownership considerations.
The position will work closely with Australian OEMs, distributors, dealers, fleet operators, transport companies, mining and construction customers, and Weichai’s domestic engineering, product, sales, and service teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Overseas Market and Competitor Analysis
- Monitor the Australian commercial vehicle, heavy-duty truck, bus, mining, construction and powertrain markets.
- Analyse market trends, customer requirements, vehicle applications, technology developments, competitor strategies and industry developments.
- Conduct competitor benchmarking covering engine performance, fuel economy, durability, reliability, emissions, serviceability, pricing, warranty and total cost of ownership.
- Monitor Australian vehicle standards, emissions regulations, safety requirements, certification requirements and emerging powertrain technologies.
- Assess market opportunities for diesel, natural gas, hybrid, electric and other new energy powertrain solutions.
- Develop product positioning and market-entry recommendations based on customer and competitive requirements.
Customer Relationship and Business Development
- Develop and maintain relationships with Australian commercial vehicle OEMs, distributors, dealers, fleet operators, transport companies, mining companies, construction companies and strategic accounts.
- Identify new OEM, distributor, fleet and strategic customer opportunities.
- Conduct product presentations, technical-commercial discussions, customer visits, demonstrations and negotiations.
- Support customer RFQs, technical specifications, product selection, testing, certification, quotations and order conversion.
- Develop long-term strategic accounts and identify opportunities for increasing Weichai product penetration.
- Promote Weichai powertrain solutions based on performance, reliability, fuel efficiency, lifecycle cost and application suitability.
Cross-functional Coordination and Product Development
- Coordinate closely with domestic engineering, product development, sales, manufacturing and technical teams.
- Communicate Australian customer requirements, technical specifications, regulatory requirements and market feedback to internal teams.
- Support product adaptation and localization for Australian operating conditions and customer applications.
- Coordinate product testing, validation, certification, launch and market promotion.
- Support new product introduction and current energy powertrain development for the Australian market.
- Support the transmission and execution of export orders.
Product Flow and Service Coordination
- Monitor product flow, order status, sales performance, inventory and customer demand.
- Coordinate with distributors, dealers, OEMs and service teams to ensure effective after-sales support.
- Monitor product reliability, field performance, warranty claims, technical issues and customer feedback.
- Coordinate technical support, spare parts requirements, maintenance support and service improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen local service capability and improve customer experience.
Market Expansion and Performance Improvement
- Develop and implement Australia market expansion strategies aligned with Weichai's global commercial vehicle objectives.
- Identify opportunities in heavy-duty transport, mining, construction, buses, logistics and other strategic sectors.
- Evaluate market opportunities for conventional and new energy powertrain solutions.
- Track sales performance, market share, customer development, competitor activities,
product penetration and account performance.
- Recommend corrective actions and business improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to achieving sales, market share, OEM development, strategic account and product promotion targets.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Internal Combustion Engines, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- Native-level English proficiency; conversational Chinese sufficient for business communication is preferred.
- Relevant experience in R&D;, sales, product development, manufacturing processes, technical sales, or related functions within the engine, automotive, commercial vehicle, powertrain, heavy equipment, mining, or related industries.
- Experience with Australian commercial vehicle OEMs, distributors, dealers, fleet operators, mining companies, transport companies, or major strategic accounts is highly preferred.
- International business or overseas market development experience is an advantage.
- Robust understanding of the Australian commercial vehicle and heavy-duty vehicle market.
- Experience with mining, long-haul transport, logistics, construction, or fleet applications is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of internal combustion engines, new energy power systems, hybrid technologies, electric powertrains and related technologies.
- Good knowledge of Weichai products, technical specifications, performance parameters and product competitiveness.
- Ability to evaluate products from technical, commercial, operational and total-cost-of-ownership perspectives.
- Strong understanding of Australian vehicle standards, emissions requirements, certification requirements and commercial vehicle operating conditions is highly preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with digital business applications.
- Strong commercial awareness, communication, negotiation, account management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong analytical and presentation skills with the ability to communicate technical information to both engineering and commercial stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel extensively within Australia and internationally when required.
