At Blackmagic Design, we build some of the world's most advanced video production tools-from digital film cameras to colour correction software-used by creative professionals across film, television, and live broadcast.
We're a global company, but our Global Headquarters are right here in South Melbourne, where all design, engineering, and manufacturing is done in-house. Since 2001, we've been creating high-performance digital cinema technology that's used everywhere from Hollywood blockbusters to YouTube content creation.
We're looking for a C++ Engineer to join our software engineering team and help build and maintain the applications used by creative professionals worldwide.
What you'll be doing
- Designing, developing, and maintaining C++ applications across desktop platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Writing clean, effective, and maintainable code for large, long-lived codebases
- Debugging and resolving issues across the stack, from UI to core application logic
- Collaborating with product, design, and QA teams to deliver new features and improvements
- Participating in code reviews and contributing to overall code quality and engineering practices
- Working across the full product lifecycle—from early design and prototyping through to shipping and ongoing support
- Optimising application performance and reliability for professional, real-time production environments
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of professional C++ experience, with solid grounding in modern C++ (11/14/17)
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms
- Ability to read, debug, and work confidently within large existing codebases
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- A practical, get-it-shipped mindset with a focus on quality and stability
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Bonus
- Experience with Qt, multimedia/video processing, image processing, or real-time systems
- Familiarity with GPU programming (Metal, Vulkan, DirectX) or audio/video codecs
- Experience with Python scripting or build/CI systems
- Exposure to mobile platforms (iOS/Android)
Why work with us
- Build tools used daily by top creatives around the world
- Work on products that span the full pipeline, from hardware to software
- Collaborate with a talented, multidisciplinary team in a hands-on engineering environment
- Work onsite in our purpose-built South Melbourne HQ with full in-house design, prototyping, and manufacturing
