Job Title

Research Assistant Mass-spectrometry

An excellent opportunity is available for a mass-spectrometry focussed Research Assistant to join the Ubiquitin Signalling Centre / Komander lab at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position The role of the Research Assistant is to provide technical and operational support for mass-spectrometry-based research relating to NoPro clipping, as recently published by the Komander lab.

Research

Assistants enable and facilitate research, contributing skills and expertise to projects within the group and with external collaborators, under the general direction of the Laboratory Head. In this case, a candidate is required to have ample experience in mass-spectrometry, ideally with hands-on experience in mass spectrometry sample processing, data acquisition and data analysis.

The Research

Assistant will be responsible for receiving and processing samples, running experiments, and analysing and presenting data to internal and external collaborators. The candidate will also be encouraged to improve existing or develop recent method workflows, and contribute to general mass spectrometry capabilities of the lab and Centre.

Selection Criteria

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

- Masters or PhD in biochemistry with a strong focus on mass-spectrometry
- Demonstrated laboratory research experience
- Computer skills relating to MS data analysis, and ability to accurately record data, results and the development of new methods.
- Project management,



excellent oral and written communication and reporting skills

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

- experience in the ubiquitin system, and/or ubiquitin/Ubl proteomics.

Personal Qualities:

- Good communication skills and the ability to work constructively within a team environment
- Ability to work as part of a team using experimental protocols
- Project management skills, including tracking collaborative samples from receipt to data analysis and publishing
- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data, methods and theories are accurate, of high-quality and accessible to other researchers
- Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable
- Willing to take direction and have progress reviewed where required

Terms of Appointment This position is initially available for 1 year, with extension funding dependent in a full time capacity. Salary is RSE 5-6 ($84,479 - $106,069) with potential for increase depending on qualification and seniority. Very attractive salary packaging options are available for general living expenses, meal entertainment, novated leasing and more. 12% superannuation payable, plus up to a further 5% after the first 6 months of service via our matching superannuation scheme.
