Assistive Technology & Seating (Macquarie Hospital, North Ryde)

What you'll be doing

The Rehabilitation Engineer position is a member of the Assistive Technology & Seating (AT&S;) service, a specialist, multidisciplinary unit providing assistive technology services to people with severe disabilities, with a multi-disciplinary staff comprising clinical and technical staff members. The Rehabilitation Engineer takes a direct clinical role in assessment for pressure management, implementation of postural supports and optimisation of functional aspects of seating, mobility, and other assistive technology needs. This role has a key role in supporting AT&S; to maintain regulatory compliance for patient-matched medical devices (PMMD) and other medical devices manufactured at Point-of-Care (POC). The Rehabilitation Engineer (Gde 3) is required to travel to and work at NSLHD facilities, Royal Rehab, and participate in AT&S; service delivery at other locations.



Participation in rural clinics is required several times per year and involves overnight stay out of Sydney for several nights (typically 1 to 3 nights, rarely 4); travel is by aircraft and/or car. People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply. Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

- Engineers Australia recognised Bachelor’s degree in either Biomedical Engineering, or a relevant alternative discipline (e.g. Electronics/Electrical engineering, Mechanical engineering, or Mechatronic engineering). Knowledge and experience in engineering design, evaluation, fabrication and regulatory compliance. Chartered Engineer credential desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in supervision of engineering/technical staff and proven high level of expertise and knowledge of health technology equipment asset management and systems.
- Demonstrated engineering experience working with medical device regulations and a demonstrable commitment to the principle of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
