Otas Consulting Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Town Planner to join our team on a contract basis. Based in our Chatswood office or work from home, this role offers the opportunity to work on diverse urban design and planning projects that shape communities and contribute to sustainable development. As a Town Planner, you will play a crucial role in developing planning strategies, analysing land use patterns, and providing expert guidance on urban development proposals. This position is integral to delivering high-quality planning solutions that balance community needs with strategic growth objectives.
What you'll be doing
Preparing and reviewing planning reports, development applications, and strategic planning documents
Conducting site analysis and feasibility studies for proposed urban development projects
Liaising with local government authorities, stakeholders, and community groups to ensure compliance with planning regulations and policies
Evaluating land use patterns and identifying opportunities for sustainable urban development
Providing expert advice on planning compliance, zoning requirements, and regulatory frameworks
Contributing to the preparation of strategic plans, masterplans, and urban design frameworks
Analysing demographic and economic data to inform planning recommendations
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including architects,
engineers, and environmental specialists
Attending meetings and presenting planning concepts to clients and government bodies
What we're looking for
A recognised qualification in town planning, urban planning, or a related discipline (Bachelor's degree or equivalent)
Skilled registration or eligibility for membership with the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) or equivalent professional body
Minimum 5+ years of qualified experience in urban design, town planning, or related planning roles
Demonstrated knowledge of planning legislation, building codes, and development assessment processes in New South Wales
Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret complex planning documents and policies
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings clearly to diverse audiences
Proficiency in relevant planning software and GIS systems
A thorough understanding of sustainable urban design principles and contemporary planning practice
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
Experience in stakeholder engagement and community consultation
