The ACT Children and Young People Commissioner is seeking a Senior Engagement Officer, to support the promotion and protection of children and young people’s rights, safety, and wellbeing.

This exciting role has a dual focus. You will work directly with children and young people to support their participation in the work of the Commission while also contributing to the implementation of the ACT Child Protected Standards Scheme through education, awareness-raising, training, resource development and organisational capability-building activities.

Working as part of the Children and Young People Commissioner team, you will contribute to policy development, submissions, stakeholder engagement and advocacy initiatives, while supporting organisations to create child-safe, child-friendly and child-aware environments for children and young people.

The ACT Human Rights Commission values its diverse work team. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, culturally diverse people and those who identify as LGBTIQ are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

- Relevant experience and/or qualifications in child rights practice and social policy are highly desirable.
- Experience in sector development and relevant fields of practice that support the rights, interests, safety, wellbeing and participation of children and young people will be well regarded.
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra

Note: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.

How to Apply: Applicants should submit a ‘pitch’ of two (2) to three (3) pages describing how your knowledge, experience and qualifications meet the Professional/Technical Skills and Knowledge and the Behavioural Capabilities of the role, as described in the Position Description. Please also provide your resume/curriculum vitae and contact details of at least two referees. A valid Working with Vulnerable People check, or eligibility to obtain one is essential.

Applications should be submitted .

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
