Founded in Melbourne in 2014, MAAP exists to advance the sport of cycling through the intersection of design, performance and culture. We create high-performance cycling apparel engineered to perform at the highest level, with a distinctive approach to design, innovation and material development.
As MAAP continues to grow globally, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Garment Technician to join our Product team.
This is a hands-on technical role with significant ownership across fit, construction, technical standards and product execution. You’ll work across men’s and women’s technical performance apparel, partnering closely with Design, Product Development, Production and our global supplier base to take complex product from development through to bulk production.
ABOUT YOU
You bring deep technical knowledge of garment construction, fit and functionality, ideally developed within technical performance, activewear or sportswear.
You’ll also bring
- Significant experience as a Garment Technician working across men’s and women’s technical product
- Solid pattern-making knowledge and the ability to apply this across a range of knit and woven fabrications
- Strong understanding of pattern grading and the development of grade rules
- Advanced knowledge of garment technical standards, including sizing, tolerances, block libraries, construction consistency and measuring standards
- Experience developing complex, highly technical garments where fit and performance are critical
- Strong attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple styles and collections simultaneously
- Confidence working directly with offshore suppliers and communicating detailed technical requirements
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, with experience working to critical paths and development deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify practical solutions through fitting, testing and development
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Technical specifications & Tech Packs
Own the development and maintenance of detailed Tech Packs within PLM, including:
- Size specifications, points of measure, grade rules and tolerances
- Measurement sketches and diagrams
- Detailed construction pages and annotations
- Artwork placement specifications
- Care labels, packaging and labelling requirements
- Supplier development notes, including block and reference sample information
- Complete technical handover to suppliers, including specifications, reference samples and instructions
- Sample requests and ongoing technical support throughout development
Sampling & fitting
- Manage development samples across allocated styles and track progress against the critical path
- Receive, review and measure samples against specifications
- Lead fittings for allocated styles
- Assess fit, balance, construction and functionality
- Prepare clear and detailed fit comments for suppliers
- Update specifications following fittings and development reviews
- Use images, diagrams and annotations to clearly communicate required changes
- Maintain accurate Tech Packs throughout the development process
- Provide development status updates at weekly Product meetings
Sample tracking & supplier development
- Manage sample timelines directly with suppliers
- Maintain accurate sample due dates and comment dates within tracking tools
- Identify opportunities to improve supplier capability and technical communication
- Develop tools and processes that support faster, more consistent sample approvals
Wear testing
- Coordinate wear testing with athletes and riders
- Capture and evaluate feedback across fit, comfort, performance and functionality
- Translate wear-test findings into measurable fit, pattern or construction improvements
Pre-production approval
- Review and approve pre-production samples for allocated styles
- Sign off technical requirements before styles move into bulk production
- Partner with the Production team to resolve outstanding technical or quality issues
Technical standards & quality
- Help maintain and evolve MAAP’s technical standards across sizing, grading, blocks, fit and construction
- Support consistency across categories and suppliers
- Partner with Production to investigate and resolve quality assurance issues where required
Sample library
- Maintain an organised development sample library
- Ensure samples are clearly labelled, recorded and easily identifiable throughout development
