The Role
Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will play a pivotal role in enabling commercial and technology strategy. You will partner closely with business development, product, engineering, infrastructure, and executive teams across Australia and North America to deliver pragmatic, solutions-oriented legal support in a quick-paced, high-growth environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the negotiation and structuring of complex customer agreements for AI and high-performance computing services, including compute capacity agreements, GPU-as-a-Service arrangements, master services agreements, cloud services contracts, and strategic enterprise deals.
- Advise on emerging legal and regulatory issues in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-intensive technologies, including AI governance and transparency obligations.
- Structure and negotiate strategic technology partnerships with AI developers, cloud providers, infrastructure operators, hardware manufacturers, and technology vendors.
- Provide specialist legal support on technology procurement, infrastructure projects, privacy, data governance, and cybersecurity.
- Advise on international privacy and data protection laws (including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) and draft/negotiate data processing agreements, security schedules, and information governance frameworks.
- Partner with technology and security teams on cybersecurity preparedness, incident response, data breach management, and enterprise risk initiatives.
- Develop scalable contracting frameworks, legal playbooks, and processes to support rapid customer onboarding while maintaining strong governance.
- Support strategic corporate transactions, financings, and expansion projects, including due diligence.
- Deliver clear, commercial, and actionable legal advice to non-legal stakeholders in a dynamic, entrepreneurial setting.
About You
- 10+ years’ post-qualification experience, ideally gained in a top-tier law firm
- Significant expertise in complex technology transactions, strategic commercial contracts, and customer-facing technology agreements.
- Deep knowledge of technology contracting, data governance, privacy, and cybersecurity, with the ability to navigate evolving regulatory landscapes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong understanding of cloud computing, AI technologies, data centre infrastructure, digital platforms, or related enterprise technology environments.
- Experience supporting AI, software, cloud, telecommunications, digital infrastructure, or mission-critical technology businesses is highly regarded.
- Proven ability to advise on novel and emerging legal issues where regulatory frameworks are still developing.
- Commercially minded, solutions-focused, and thrive in a fast-paced, ambitious environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior executives, technical teams, and commercial leaders.
