We are inviting applications for Core Advanced Trainee positions in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Royal Darwin Hospital, Darwin, Top End, Northern Territory.
Training in Darwin, Top End, NT, offers more than specialist clinical experience. It provides the opportunity to work in a unique and diverse healthcare environment, serve urban, remote and regional communities, collaborate across disciplines and develop skills that will shape your career as a respiratory and sleep physician.
Responsibilities
The Respiratory and Sleep Medicine team at Royal Darwin Hospital provides specialist clinical services across the vast geographical region of the Top End of the Northern Territory, including inpatient, outpatient and remote outreach services. Training at RDH offers exposure to a diverse and complex range of acute and chronic respiratory and sleep disorders, while providing a unique opportunity to work across urban, regional and remote settings. Our team regularly travels to remote and regional communities to deliver outreach clinics. This provides valuable opportunities to collaborate with local healthcare teams and gain experience in providing culturally responsive care to a large Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population. Further, opportunities for dual training in General Medicine.
Training and Clinical Opportunities
Advanced Trainees will have opportunities to develop skills and experience in:
- Respiratory and sleep outpatient settings
- Remote and regional outreach clinics
- Inpatient respiratory/sleep consultations
- Hands on Pleural procedures
- Pulmonary function and sleep study interpretation and reporting
- Perform Bronchoscopy and EBUS
- Management of complex respiratory and sleep disorders, including CPAP and NIV
Requirements
Passed both written and clinical RACP Physicians exam or equivalent for both Respiratory and Sleep AT position.
Post FRACP for Sleep AT position can apply.
Salary and Perks
- One-year Core Respiratory Advanced Trainee — fully funded
- Six-month Core Sleep Advanced Trainee — (private/public – partially funded)

Training is supported by strong multidisciplinary links and close collaboration with Infectious Diseases, including Tuberculosis services, Cardiology, Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Intensive Care, Medical Oncology and Thoracic Surgery.
