About the role
NQ Estimating & Civil Services is seeking a HR Truck Driver/Backhoe Operator to join our team on a casual basis in Cairns, QLD. This is a hands-on operational role that combines driving responsibilities with heavy equipment operation. You will play a crucial role in our construction and civil services operations, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of materials, equipment and machinery to and from job sites whilst operating heavy machinery with precision and professionalism. This position is pivotal to keeping our projects moving on schedule and maintaining the high standards of safety and quality that define our company.

Key responsibilities

- Operate and maintain HR (Heavy Rigid) trucks, ensuring safe transportation of materials, equipment and machinery to construction and civil sites

- Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections of trucks and backhoe equipment to ensure they are in safe working condition

- Operate backhoe machinery with precision and accuracy to complete excavation, loading and unloading tasks on site

- Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations and site-specific protocols whilst operating vehicles and machinery

- Maintain accurate records of equipment operation, fuel consumption and any maintenance issues that require attention

- Communicate effectively with site supervisors, project managers and team members to coordinate operations and ensure tasks are completed efficiently

- Assist with basic maintenance and cleaning of trucks and equipment as required

- Transport equipment and materials in compliance with load limits, weight distribution and hazardous goods regulations where applicable

- Respond promptly to site requirements and adapt to changing project schedules as part of casual employment

What we're looking for

- Valid HR (Heavy Rigid) Truck Driver Licence with a clean driving record

- Proven experience operating backhoe machinery and other heavy plant equipment on construction or civil engineering sites





- Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures and a strong commitment to maintaining safe working practices

- Ability to read and interpret site plans, diagrams and operational instructions accurately

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

- Physical fitness and the ability to perform tasks that may require manual handling and extended periods of operation

- Reliability and punctuality, with a flexible approach to working casual shifts

- Current First Aid certification is desirable

- Experience working on civil construction projects in regional Queensland is highly valued
