We are seeking a Senior Test Automation Engineer to join our team on an initial 3-6 month contract to help drive quality engineering practices across a portfolio of digital products.

This is a hands-on role for a senior automation specialist with robust experience in framework development, test automation, CI/CD integration, cloud-based testing solutions, and mentoring QA engineers.

You will play a key role in improving automation coverage, optimising test execution, and enabling faster, higher-quality software delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Test Automation & Framework Development

- Design, develop and maintain scalable test automation frameworks using WebdriverIO (WDIO), JavaScript/TypeScript, and Cucumber BDD.
- Create and maintain automated UI, API, and end-to-end test suites.
- Drive automation-first testing practices across delivery teams.
- Improve framework reliability, maintainability, and test coverage.
- Contribute to quality engineering standards, tooling, and best practices.

CI/CD & DevOps Integration

- Build and maintain automation pipelines within GitLab CI/CD.
- Configure automated test execution for merge requests, deployments, and scheduled runs.
- Implement parallel test execution using Docker and Selenium Grid.
- Support continuous testing as part of the software delivery lifecycle.

Cloud & Tooling Integrations

- Integrate test frameworks with cloud and enterprise tooling, including:
- AWS services (e.g. S3)
- Slack notifications
- Secrets management platforms




- Browser-based cross-platform testing solutions
- Develop automated reporting and quality dashboards.

Mobile & Cross-Platform Testing

- Support testing across web, mobile, and responsive applications.
- Execute and validate testing activities on iOS and Android platforms.
- Ensure consistency across browsers, devices, and screen resolutions.

Required Skills & Experience

- Extensive experience in software testing and test automation.

Strong hands-on experience with:

- WebdriverIO (WDIO)
- Cucumber BDD
- JavaScript and/or TypeScript
- Selenium WebDriver
- Proven experience building and maintaining automation frameworks.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Strong knowledge of Git and GitLab.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated quality gates.
- API testing knowledge and experience with REST services.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.

Highly Desirable

- Experience migrating from legacy automation frameworks to modern solutions.
- Docker and Selenium Grid experience.
- BrowserStack or similar cloud testing platform experience.
- AWS / Azure exposure, particularly test tooling integrations.
- Experience with enterprise secrets management solutions.
- Mobile automation experience using Appium or similar tools.
- Performance testing exposure.
- Experience coaching or mentoring QA engineers.
- ISTQB certification or equivalent.
